HELP! I got the sniffer test!!!
Okay HT members, I need help with my smog. I got a 96 GSR with the Greddy turbo kit, FMIC, BOV, and a SKUNK2 intake manifold. I pass the visual portion of my smog check (thank goodness); however, I'm failing the emissions portion of the test. I have to bring my car to a Test Only Center and so far have tested twice. I've only failed in the HC portion of the test. Here are my results for both times I went:
1st attempt HC: Max Ave Meas
15mph 61 9 73
25mph 45 7 44
2nd attempt HC: Max Ave Meas
15mph 61 9 98
25mph 45 7 60
After my first attempt, I went ahead and changed my spark plugs, my oil, fuel filter, and added some fuel additives to clean out my fuel system. Well, based on my second attempt, it didn't work. Does anyone have any suggestions on what I can do??? I am using the Greddy blue box, but I think I'm running rich. Any suggestions will help. Thanks.
By the way, I did do a search on this topic, but I needed more advice than what was posted.

you could try a fuel pressure regulator adn lower the fuel pressure... hc is unburned fuel. But if you lower it too much then the o2 level will go up causing it to fail as well for innefficency. good luck. They make an additive that helps you pass this part as well... i forgot what it was called but it really works- seaarch for it.
1) bad 02 not regulating the mix
2) your cat is shot (probably from running so rich for so long)
I passed running the AFC hack, with flying colors... and bottom line is, at part throttle, even with the blue box, non boosted situations are still in closed loop -- you should be able to tell via a ghetto a/f gauge if you have one, and it's bouncing back and forth...

damn that sucks ***, ive got a 96 gsr with a dragIII kit well kind of drag III and i passed just 2 weeks ago cause all they did was the obd test, but cali is fricken strict, when the old man sat in my car he asked what all this stuff was here for VAFC AVCR autometer boost gauge and a coulple others, i was shitten bricks then he handed me my keys and said nice hood, good luck though i would still like to know
Unplug the PCV from the oil separator.
Retard the timing all the way back and raise the idle until it idles semi-normally again.
You'll most likely pass then
That's how I get through the local sniffer tests, works like a charm.
