Default Helicoil/timecert

Im having one HELL of a time trying to get one fuggin head stud repaired. Every place near me, tells me that they dont have a helicoil that will go down 3 inchs to reach the area needed to put one in, they all say they only have one that is for a surface thread.
I will be using GE headstuds and I really really need to find out how to get a helicoil or timecert down that far. Or do you just have to thread the whole hole? If ANYONE has a part number of either that will work PLEASE PLEASE tell me.

Thanks a ton!!

my buddy had the same problem when the timecert was put in and the stud was torqued, the nut would just pull the bolt too high and it would hit the cam caps the machine shop didn't have an answer good luck bro

Ya the ONLY thing that i have been able to find that actually is able to do it, since the shops around me are pretty useless on this matter, is buying a honda/acura head bolt kit.

Kinda sad when they make a kit specifically for it though right? In there kit they say the pitch is 11x1.5 is that correct? Either way the kit is 300+ and Its BARELY worth it at that point.

Its too bad nobody makes a big fat head stud so a machine shop could just drill and retap the hole.

You can get an oversized stud but then you have to also drill out the head.

I have had this problem before and I had no problem using a Recoil brand thread repair kit,the tool that is supplied with the kit will fit down in the hole.

Pm me I can supply the kit if you can't find it.

i sense some sarcasm muckman... if you can show me who does id be MORE than happy to just go that route. When I called up arp I asked if they could make me custom sized stud and they said its like several hundred dollars to make just one.... Maybe they took me the wrong way? Im not sure

I have a over size stud but the other problem is that you have to find a nut to fit down inside the head that you can get a socket on.

I suggest use the inserts and try to put 2-3 inserts in the hole or until it reach to the top. I"ve done 2 inserts in the hole and it was strong as hell. I hope that help. PM me for more info.

I had the same problem, 3 studs came out (stripped block) when i tightened the head. I got it fixed the only right way and that is to use a 1/2" arp stud, the kit cost me $80 and my machinist drilled, and tapped what need to be done for $200. ARP knew what studs i was talking about when i called them. Yeah don't ever try to get arp to custom make a stud, it's like $130 for one stud! I got the whole 1/2" stud kit for $80

Just make sure your machinist knows what he is doing, break a tap inside the block and you might as well throw it in the scrap aluminum pile.

Block drilled, block tapped, new custom dowel pins, drill head holes bigger, and the next part, cut the headgasket holes bigger for the studs, then you have a solid setup that you won't have to worry about. (if done correctly)

was that for all the studs? or was that just for 3 studs that it was 80 bucks? B/c I may want to just do that. I just spent 320 on the timesert honda head bolt repair kit. But i can return it if i decide its not what i want.

And cutting into the head and headgasket, sound like a lot more work than what needs to be done

Call Jerry's Tap and Dye in Santa Ana, Calif. They fix those blocks everyday. If you can't find the number by 411, I probably have the number at the shop (714.688.0222). Jerry's is in the 714 area code. I think they are on Chestnut St.

Id like to do that except for the fact that it would cost more for shipping the block there and back and getting it done than it would to just order the timesert kit. I almost want to just get rid of the block and get a new benson sleeved block. This is such a pain for one damn thread lol

Ya I ordered there honda/acura head bolt kit. But it was about 300 bucks. They say its everything you need to make it so that the threading goes all the way to the bottom. Is there a way to get one of their regular kits to go 3" down and then tap in the timesert? Reason I ask is b/c supposedly my machine shop doesnt have anything like that.

For somereason I get the feeling im just getting the run around with the machine shop, since everyone else seems to have less of an issue with it than me.

well i can still send it back, i made sure of that before i purchased it. I just tried one last machine shop in my area and they said they can do it no problem even though i informed them of it being down so far. Only 60 to do it. Just for a future FYI how much did you want for the kit?
