Default Heagasket/idle problems......HELP!!!!

Ok i just finished installing my .043 cometic headgasket and when I start the car, it just bogs and pretty much dies. On the cold start, the rpm is around 500 and the car just shakes and makes an ugly farting sound.

Inline pro suggested to me that it could be the cam gear timing, but I swear its right after i put the belt back on.

My friend suggested to me that its just because the piston rings havent sealed up yet and to just pour a little oil in each sparkplug hole and let it run.

I need some opinions on this. THanks. This is a b18c1 with a turbo. Thanks

All motors I have built/help build never do that on startup. It sounds like something is wrong. Make sure the timing is right or it will definately run like ****. How much did you torque the headstuds? Did you copper spray it?

i torqued the headstuds to factory specs.

My friend said he had pretty much the same problem when he did his headgasket. Is it true that if there is no oil in the engine or pistons for a month it will do that?
also my check engine light came on...which it has never done before

update, the check engine light is gone, i fixed a unplugged harness.

Now the problem is, my turbo fins arent spinning and my car sounds like a diesel truck. The idle and coolant temp seem fine. I just noticed water dripping out of my cat.

i would definitely double check the timing. Timing could cause the car to idle like **** or not even start.

btw, did you use the copper spray?

Also, you were just changing the headgasket and not the pistons/rings right? If that was the case, you shouldnt have a problem with the rings not being seated after its been sitting for a month. The oil your friend was talking about putting in was so that the compression bumps alittle, cause the rings not being seated properly on a fresh rebuild. You shouldn't have a problem with that tho.

ok new problems. i fixed the valves so it does not sound like a diesel truck anymore. I took the timing belt off and checked the timing and it seemed ok.

NOW, my car barely even starts and the engine jerks around like its trying to escape the mounts and bogs out and dies

wtf is gouing on here!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Take another look at your timing. If you have an aftermarket timing gear, put the oem back on and set it as per the factory setting lining up the gear with the indicator marks. It really sounds like your off 5-10 degrees, which is not so good. If its way off on an interferance motor you'll bang the pistons off your valves.

Also, do a compression test and check your compression. If you think your HG is gone start the car and open your rad cap and if you see bubbles and a slight oil sheen, you gots problems!

If you had some overheating problems with your car before you put the new HG you could have a slight warp in the head or could have developed some hot spots or pitting. I experience this whenI blew my motor the summer and rebuilt it, only to take it apart again to get teh head milled 10 thou to clean it up.

Do a compression test though and check your timing again before you take it appart, and like I said the only way yo baseline your timing is with the oem cam gear (s).

Good luck.

thanks.

Stan - The only leak I see is a tiny bit of water coming from my cat?? I was thinking this is because a bunch of coolant leaked from behind the block when I forgot to hook up a hose. I did notice some white crud in my radiator when I took the cap off to fill it up a little. This is a brand new Fluidyne radiator which was smoking when I first started the car. Maybe its just crud from the factory?

I do not have aftermarket gears. I have the oem ones on. When I try to line them up TDC #1, and put the belt on, the only way it will go on is that the intake arrow is SLIGHTY off front pointing upwards.
