Default hardcore d16z6!

I finally got my d16z6 the other day, I plan on keeping it in the garge until everything is complete. I dont care about the costs, but I want a 275+hp sohc daily driver. Is anyone out these boosting this much (prefferably with the greddy kit). I am figuring I need atleast 15 psi and new rods, pistons, block gaurd, and P&P head. I just need some insight from anyone here hitting low 13's or high 12's in their T-sohc.

Why does everyone say port and polish? You don't frickin' polish the ports!

Good luck with the project. Remember: bigger turbos flow more air at lower pressure ratios, keeping the heat down. You may want to ditch that small 15G or whatever it is and find and 18G...

275 whp that's a very realistic goal as long as you properly build your motor and choose a good fuel mgmt.

And I thought I was aiming for a more conservative goal ( 320 whp).... Good luck with your project.

Same reason why I chose the t3/t04e .48 ar/57 trim W0000000000000000000000T jigga.

using the t3/t04e .48 ar/57 trim how much lag do you have to deal with. I like the greddy because it will spool quickly, but how much boost can the greddy 15g take? Also POLLO what kind of power are you getting from that setup, i am assuming this is on a d16

It's really die out after 12 PSI from what I've seen. The efficiency will drop way off because the charge air will be much hotter. Get a T3/4. Don't be so scared of lag, you'll like a tiny bit of lag more than you'll like a turbo that can't keep up with the engine.

i've talked to ep motors before and they told me the 15g doesn't produce any more power on the dyno after 14psi. so 14psi and that's about it. i have the greddy kit and yes it does spool up pretty fast. but i've also ridden in cars with the t3/t04e and an rx7 with a t04r. i say go with something bigger for top end and you'll have no problem hitting 275whp at 15psi

yeah, I'm running the 15G right now, and fast spool-up is nice, but the top end is a little lacking. I wish I would've went with something better. for all-out driveability, it can't be beat, but for all-out power, a t3/t04e would've been better as mentioned before. and a .48 a/r wouldn't create too much lag, either.

Yeah but there's no need to polish them. The exhaust ports get coated with carbon so they become nice and smooth anyway, and the slight "roughness" in the intake ports is supposed to promote a good mixture.

Polishing is for the old sk00lerz dawg!

hey guys thanks for the insight. Now the t3/t04e, what is up with the e at the end? Is it standard code?? Also would this turbo fit on the greddy manifold? I am thinking no, but just checkin first. And finally who out here actually HAS a t3/t04e on their sohc?????

Correct. To elaborate, leave the intake port walls downstream of the injectors the equivalent of 440 sand paper. This will keep the fuel in suspension. If it's polished smooth, the fuel will puddle on the walls. You can polish the exhaust ports, but they get caked with carbon (unless you do a good portjob to get rid of the turbulence) anyway. You CAN polish the intake manifold and anything else upstream of the injectors to your hearts content, though. Have fun!

Wow ... your project is very similar to mine. I currently have a 93 Si with the greddy turbo kit. I hope to reach mid 12s with the D16. ... SOHC s get no respect; everyone always says to do a swap... BAH! ... it nice to see someone else sticking with the D16.
I want to hit 12s with the greddy kit but realize I may have to switch to a bigger turbo down the line. I woun't be able to completely reach goal for a few years (poor college student). Right now I am extremly happy with the greddy kit. The spool is very nice for daily driving. I wouldn't have it any other way. The blue box has fuel running smoothly and nice and slighly rich when boost comes on. I am running only 5 psi right now and the torque surge from 3,000rpms - 5,400rpms is incredible. Currently I have a poo mieniki, George Forman, exhaust thats currently killing the top end but it still ballsy as hell. At just 5psi my car hit a 15.01. Mid/high 14's are just an 3in exhaust away (this summer's project). Turning up the boost wouldn't hurt my times either. I recommed the greddy kit but it's all in what your looking for ( Really!?!?! who would of thought ). I feel the greddy kit is perfect for daily driving but if you don't mind a bit of lag, have time to spare leaving the car in the garage, and have enough money than you should probably hit up a bigger turbo and save some hassel down the line. Good Luck on your project.

I want to know what people think about IHI turbos. Are they any good? not just the smalls ones either what about the ones that the WRX owners upgrade to?

IHI makes a kickass turbo.

This has absolutly no bearing on quality, but what I find funny is that while most import guys trash domestic stuff, they run Garrett turbos in their cars. Guess where Garrett is made! Yep, good 'ole US of A.

IHI is Japanese.
