h22a turbo- trim choices- .54? opinions?
hi guys.
I was on the phone with majestic a while back, trying to decide on a turbo for my h22a application. Here's what i was told would be a good choice:
T3/T04e, .54 trim, .63 ar, stg three wheel, 360 degree thrust bearing. I havent decided if i should spring for the ball bearing.
Now, i know that majestic knows their stuff. But i thought i'd look around and see what everyone else was running, which turns out to be a bunch of different stuff. I was a good little honda-techie and i did a search, and found that some people say the .50 is an upgrade? i thought that was smaller? Needless to say, i'm completely confused.
Anyone have any input? btw, this is for a built (golden eagle resleeve, lo-comp pistons, the whole kit'n kaboodle) h22a, hondata, hoping to be 18 psi accessible. Any and all opinions are welcome. . . .

I heard that the E is a hard fit for the H22a, but i guess it depends on what kind of manifold you plan to get.

I would go with a 57 trim. I use a t3 63 a.r. 57 trim, t04e stage 2 or 3 wheel, ( i forget), 63 a.r. on a stock B18b. I would personally go even bigger than the 57 trim on the h22a. The whole turbo size/lag issue depends on what kind of manifold you would be using. I use a tubular equal length manifold and there is really no lag. However, poeples opinions of lag is different. I prefer high end power to quick spool up time but its all up to you. Actually, have you thought about using a straight to4e?

well, it depends on the type of manifold you are getting and where the turbo will be placed. With the f-max manifold only a B will fit...an E will hit the radiator.

well, as far as fitment issues go, i'm in a whole world of pain because it's going in my accord swap anyway, which has even less room than a prelude does. But thats beside the point.
eg- you use an equal length? the only one i've found is made by revhard [for the h22] That thing is expenive! But sure does look good. . . also a lot of manifolds i've seen dont have flanges for an external wastegate (tial of course.) Anyway, i'm definitely more on warpath for big hp; lag is not a concern to me. I'd like to see 375 hp, hopefully. . . .

IMHO, you have more room than a Prelude does. If lag is not an issue, opt for a straight T04e. It opens up a whole new realm of possibilities.

really? to4e. . . mmmmmmmmm lol.
honestly think the h22 can handle that, eh?
i spoke to some of the guys at xs engineering and they weren't really interested in actually figuring out a decent setup. The conversation went something like this: "so you think the .54 is big enough?" "i dont see why not" "do you think i should go to a .57 for bigger hp?" "yeah you could do that". and so on. but their turbos (although expensive) do look very cool. . . he tried to steer me toward the t04x they have, which is rated for 400 to 600 hp. . . . thats a big boy.

I doubt you'd ever get into the efficiency range of that turbo. I'm really surprised they were not very helpful, they are usually quite the opposite!

I just got majestic to rebuilt my turbo. it is a t4E/t3 .57 trim .50 a/r on the cold side and stage 3 .63 a/r on the hot side. I think this should work for the h22a motor. if I were to choose, I will choose either .50, .57 or .60, even though i think .60 is a bit too big.
I will post some pictures of my setup tonite; just got back my "almost equal length" manifold from Jet-hot, and they look nice!!
btw, I have very similar setup as yours, except that I am running 10:1 compression.

the .50 is stronger than the .54 wheel.
get the super wheels for faster spoolup.
i went w/ a .50 trim but it hasn't com eback to me yet so i can't test it out.
