H22 Rebuild?
Okay, everyone is saying that you need to resleeve the block to use forged pistons, right? Well, has anyone tried to do it without resleeving, if so what were the end results. Everyone i talked to said I had to do this to my block JBR, Race Engineering, JE, ect... Except for two Importbuilders.com and EIP Tuning. Eip tuning has a project turbo and they didn't resleeve the block and haven't had any problems with their setup. And Importbuilders.com said they've done that on a couple of customer's cars and have been running them like that for a while. So my question is do you think it's a gamble or should i just save my money and resleeve the block?
They are not Nikasil. It is called a Fiber Reinforced Mesh (FRM). It is .5 mm thick, and you can safely bore and hone it up to .3 mm. There are a couple of reasons for this FRM. First, the sleeves are aluminium. If you have an aluminium piston and the sleeve is made from the same material, there is too much friction. That is where the liner comes in. Second, strength. The FRM is much stronger than the stock aluminium sleeve. Gotta hold that power. Yes, you can install aftermarket pistons with the stock sleeves. If you are going that far, I would resleeve though. If you need a good deal, I can hook you up with GE sleeves. I am not running a GB right now, but I do offer aggressive prcing. IM me or email me if you are interested.
check out this guy that put aftermarket pistons and didn't sleeve the prelude block...

One, I bet the guy didn't even hone the sleeves and two. I bet he installed the rings incorrectly. There are many people who have installed aftermarket pistons in the H22 with no issues! You can't fault the FRM for a user mistake!
