I searched, and all I can find about removing the H22 oil pan is to pry. I can pry the pan on the little spot where I can get something there, but it's almost like the corner of the oil pan will snap off...that wouldn't be good.

So, Any other Miraculous suggestions?

How about removing the front cross member, then drilling and tapping the hole? Only problem with that is the stupid pan beeing aluminum, I can't just use a magnet to collect all the metal shavings inside.

I tried and tried and tried with a chissel, rubber mallet, pry bar, normal claw hammer..etc...nothing works.

P.S. finding a 1/2 inch NPT tap, as well as the corresponding 23/32 drill bit..is not east at all! Good thing for me I found both at good prices.

Are you sure you got all the bolts off

Take your time and think about it. You do not want to mess up your pan. Like the guy above said...do you have all the nuts off

there should be like 18 bolts surrounding the oil pan

after all those are off, take a flat head and slowly pry that bitch open.

hope you drained the oil b4 you start it.

Make sure you have the flywheel cover plate (3 10mm bolts) removed and the 2 bolts (10mm that hold the pan in tact) underneath it removed as well.

If you have a h22a4 motor then the reason you cannot get it off is most likely due to all the hondabond that is used to create a seal.

you wouldn't want to do that anyway.

make sure you have all the bolts out and rock the pan slightly back/ forth a little bit to get pan gasket to come loose. should not be a very much effort or pressure required... if it does you missed a bolt.

I was trying to remove it for 1 hour, you think I left a bolt there?

I know how to remove bolts, and yes I did remove the flywheel cover piece and got the bolts by the flex plate.

It is a H22A4, so yes it has the Honda bond, so it's not just regular RTV. I'v taken out a pan with RTV, needed some effort....but not this much.

I tried banging with rubber mallet, prying, banging in a chissel...nothing works.

I was thinknig of taking my air cut off tool and cutting a groove out to be able to get something in there........ (READ: I'm kidding)

I dunno, maybe I'll have more luck tonight. If just felt like the corner of the pan was going to break when I was prying it.

Nope, I've gotten one off that was honda-bonded on...it took like 2 hours of prying and digging. I ended up taking a razor knife and cutting as much of the honda-bond seal as possible, then got one flat head on the front, one on the back, and pried...finally it let go.

if you get desperate, take a nice big rubber mallet, and hit at a downward angle on the top edge of the drain bolt. i've had a few pans on other engines that just refused to come off since they were sealed tight and had never come off before, and i couldnt even get a flat-head in anywear. a few solid hits usually pops it loose and then you can just pull it off with your hands. good luck

I think I may not have the car high enough in the air..(working on the ground).. Maybe I jsut can't get enough leverage now.

I'll try with the rubber mallet...Hopefully it works.

that's the last thing I need to do is drill and tap the oil pan. :s

You may already know this, but be VERY careful not to over torque the bolts when re-installing your oil pan.

Yeah, good point.

it's funny, when searching in the Prelude section...there was a post saying to torque them to 108ft. lbs.....LOL!! RIGHT, I think that's a little too much! Maybe 108 inch lbs.

I just hope it works.

LS specs call for 9 ft-lb [i think]...which I think is too much. I run them all up by hand, then add 1/4 to 1/2 turn to each. No leaks, no missing bolts/nuts.

no one was trying to imply anything negative I dont think... we are hardly sitting there with you to know without asking if the bolts were out... shheeesh.

definatley try to jack up the car and put some muscle on it... I have never had a pan give me that much trouble, honda bonded pans included.

good luck... there is no miracle solution to removing an oil pan...

Hammer a chisel or flat head screw driver in there. The most its going to do is **** up the gasket which needs to be replaced anyways.
