I'd sell the closed deck block to someone looking for a cheap stock block/coated Mahle setup. Sleeve the A4.

Open deck would cool a little better. Closed deck would have less cyl. distortion. depends on power you plan to develop and your setup.

Irrelevant, he's sending one off to be sleeved. As such, which block he chooses makes no difference from a reliability standpoint while which block he doesn't send off makes a difference from a sale-a-bility aspect.

Cooling is only an issue if there are issues with the cooling system, head gasket, timing, etc. I've run closed deck sleeves with single core Civic radiators in DC chassis, zero problems.

Open deck sleeves versus closed deck sleeves and cyl distortion? Eh, I'm going to label that a non-issue. If you can make 500-600 whp off of stock Honduh sleeves, the liners of which are ribbed and 0.060" at their thinnest points, with aluminum poured around them and the whole bimetal sleeve assembly thinner than the open deck style flanged liners from Darton... non-issue.
