if at all possible, yes. At first, your pricing won't be that good, but after you establish a relationship with them, your pricing will get better and better. Best advice I can give you: start small, work you way up, and never let your debt exceed your current working capital.

I do, however, suggest you take a business course or two prior to doing anything. Based on your original question, I don't think you have enough knowledge of economics and small business to jump into running a shop. The obvious route would be to contact the manufacturers as your primary source of goods.... logic Was that more insightful or to your liking ?

There are a lot of shops popin up around this area lately. I hope you have something to offer that they dont. If its just your average joe shop, dont count on staying in business too long. Just my 0.02. If you need help - I can do my best however I do not know what you'll be needing. I'm about 20 min from you.

Sometimes you do better by buying from a shop that is large instead of going direct...they buy lots of quantitys and can give you a better price then direct.

you ain't gonna make squat. do you know how whored out the market is? if you plan on competing, plan on making 5% profit on most products. the amount of trouble and headache's you will get from screwing one thing, we result in a loss! plus the stress. not worth it. open up some clothing store or some other type of store and u'll make a lot more $

Dont deal with Keystone...they suck.
Going direct is a good idea in some situations, but in many you will need a serious buy-in, and if you dont plan on dealing a lot with those products, you're SOL.
Good luck man...you will find out quickly that there are MANY bad apples in this sport. Did you read the thread involving NWP4LIFE and 1 FAST R...lets just say there are TONS of 1 FAST R's in this world...you'll see it first hand. It makes the whole thing a hell of a lot harder than it should be, but at the same time, you're doing what you love, so dont let it get to you.

Step-1- Go to your local bank and get a loan for at least 500,000.
Step-2- Open accounts with Snap-On, Matco, Mac
Step-3- Buy a **** load of shop tools. (presses, bleeders, computers, diag. equipment)
Step-4- Hire a lot of good old boys who are extremely racist
Thats a pretty good pattern to follow if you want to open a succesful independent shop. Its worked well for my bosses shop.
