Default Guages?

Iv noticed that not alot of people on this board are too fond of AutoMeter guages. Is there another option thats not as exspisive as Greddy or Blitz that not so exspinsive? Also, what gueages are most needed(boost, a/f, EGT, Oil pressure, Water temp, ect...)?

I think AM are ok for the money. Anyway, the boost, EGT, and fuel pressure will be the best ones to get. A/F and oil press. should be considered after you already have the first three.

I personally like the Greddy 52mm guages, they are well worth the money! I think electronic guages are the way to go. I would hate to have a mechanical oil guage start leaking inside the car! These are the guages I recommend:

1. Boost
2. EGT
3. Oil Pressure
4. Fuel Pressure

I have Autometer boost and EGT gauges. No problems with them and they seem to give pretty accurate readings compared to my friend who took measurements of my exhaust temp with some crazy tool he has.

They are the carbon fiber series.....pretty cheap for CF, and they look nice too. I give them

Can someone explain the difference between electronic and machanical guages? Im guessing on mechanical, oil, fuel, or what ever is pumped through the guage to get the reading?

generally, autometer gauges are unreliable and do not hold memory. the greddy gauges are expensive, but you get what you paid for. boost and egt are the best buys in my opinion. water temp and oil pressure are also good ones. memory woks extremely well when your at the track. its very difficult to monitor driving along with 3 or 4 gauges. at the end of your run(1/4 mile or autox) the memory gauges will tell you where you maxed out at and allow you to fix your problem. trust me, in the 1/4, i don't think i've ever got a good look at any of my gauges.....except the tach....

good gauges are a good buy.

personally i like Defi the best, but i am a cheap ***** so i am getting AM Zseries to match my stock gauge cluster. oil pressure & boost (EGT, oil temp & fuel press later) are already ordered, just have to wait now!

Do the Greddy 52MM guages fit inside some of the different guage pods that are out there, like the Autometer ones?

I plan on buying 4 guages for my car...which would you choose, EGT or A/F? I don't have room for both.

egt is the best choice. the readings are accurate(if installed correctly) and is great for the highway. if your gauge creeps past a certain point, back off the throttle and your ok. if you don't.....kaboom.

Heres my defi setup in the race car.
Not a single gauge is ever looked at.. what a waste in my opinion. I can drive with no gauges and it will be better. I think the main reason i got gauges is only for the dyno session otherwise i never have time to look at anything.

think a 2step would be beneficial for someone on street tires( to build the boost off the line), or is traction so horrible it wouldnt even make a difference.

like...better to launch off the line with 0 boost at 4000 rpm, or launch off the line at 2000 rpm with boost .....
