gt35r v. gt30r on b16... spool time
ok stuck between these two badass turbos... can anyone give me comparisons of when each of these turbos start spooling on a b16? My buddy with a gt35r doesnt start bosting til 4300 on his b18 so im wondering how much worse it would be on a b16.
Im only looking for 400whp but i want a very fast spool, not sure if the 35r is overkill for my goal.... thanks for any insight

We didn't exactly have great control of the boost.

25.5psi peak. As you can see from the graph boost was not held constant.

well its actually goin on a b17 not a b16 but they are pretty much the same spool wise...
so the 30r would be best huh? how much boost would it take to make 400whp on a 30r / topmounted / 9:1 pistons / ctr cams / victorX manifold? I was hoping to get there on ~20psi?

if i were to take a guess 15-16. if u only want to make 400whp, then a 30r is a great turbo to go for, a 35r would bo overkill.

easily, even a gt28 will do it.

A lot depends on your turbine housing choice. The larger you go, the more power per PSI while sacrificing spool.
It took my setup 18 psi to make 383 WHP at 10.5:1 CR with a GT2871R but a T2 hotside (0.86a/r that comes with the turbo). I don't see why you cannot make over 400 WHP with a GT30R.
GT3071R gets my vote, and if you can run a twin scroll setup, that's even better

checked atp turbo, your right, a 30r is a much better choice, a 2871 could do it but it be maxed out.

Re: (blinx9900)
My buddy had a GT30r on his built b16 a few years back. Nice response and made excellent power.

Re: gt35r v. gt30r on b16... spool time (B.)
i had a 35r on my low comp built b16a full spool around 5000rpm and when you hit crossover it is rediculous. 30r is a more linear powerband but if you liek lopsided monster topend go witht he 35r. i had zero issue with lag on the street, with the 35r. now im going t70.

Re: (turbotime)
This is a fairly simple setup on low boost. Creeping a little, maybe to 6.5psi by redline. 0.63ar and 3" dp/exhaust and equal length manifold made in house. I would expect 380-390 at 15psi.

30r = 3076r, 3071r=3071r, so the 30r is the one you want. a .63 hot side would be great.
