Default GT28RS on Integra LS/VTEC built WILL IT WORK?

Hey guys. I have a 1997 Integra LS/VTEC with cp pistons (9:1 compression), Manley rods, B18C1 head with stage 1 cams, exhaust, intake, etc. Anyways, I was wondering if I could use the garret GT28RS turbo with my setup. The reason I question using it is because it is a water-cooled turbo and I don't know how I would go about doing that. I know other cars with water-cooled turbos have their coolant reservoir moved next to the turbo to ensure proper water delivery. Has anyone put a GT28RS in their Integra? If yes do you have to move the coolant reservoir. Thanks.

yes, you can use it. But for a motor with that kind of work, it'd be, well, underwhelming. I'd go with a bigger turbo if I were you

Coolant reservoir? All you have to do is run a water line to the turbo and then a return. My source is from where I removed the factory oil cooler and for the return I just tapped my radiator.

I would recommend against tapping the radiator....there are plenty of other places the return could go.......

Would a GT30R provide me with a workable torque curve...will it spool fully before 4500 rpm?

Where in the coolant loop do you recommend putting the turbo?

Open down a Gt3076r with .82a/r housing will spool in that 4200-4800 area depending upon where you are and located your setup. I had that same turbo and i made 420 and 325wtq on 16 pounds recirc dump and full 3in exhaust on a 2.0 ls/vtec. I hit full boost 4800-5000 rpm

I would typcially use the lines that fed the throttle body....of course bypassing the throttle body

GT30R is an excellent turbo, but for less money you could get a nice bullseye borg warner that will spool just as quick, if not quicker for the power level.

Walker where did you put the turbo in your coolant system? Did you experience overheating?

Where could I pick up a bullseye? Can you post a link?

the turbo is not going to create enough heat in the coolant to overheat the motor.

I'm going to go out on a limb here and assume he's planning on using this car on US streets. Meaning at best, he'll have drag radials on it. Usually people who only drag the car could give 2 dumps about water cooling.

If thats the case, why suggest a turbo that will do 500whp? 350-400whp with a GT28RS or 71r is closer to what he'd want - "a workable torque curve". 450whp with traction problems is usually worse than 350whp w/traction. The best split would be a s256 with a divided housing, or a GT2871R. Both can do 400whp, both will spool fast for the street.

This is the F.I. form, not the DRAG RACING forum, FYI.

That's pretty much exactly what TheShodan said when I asked him about it. The GT2871R is my final choice.
