Default gt28 wastegate problem

I have a gt28 turbo w/ internal wastegate on my 00 ex. To be more specific, I have the Edelbrock turbo kit. The piggyback is supposed to be set at 8psi, but for some reason it always spikes and goes to about 10 pounds. Sometimes it goes past to about 12. My guess is that it's because the wastegate isn't opening up enough. Anyone know what I can do to fix this problem. Oh yeah, btw I already tried a manual boost controller. Thanks

Those small turbo are hard to control with manual boost controler. You should get an electronic boost controller. With my Greddy kit I had the same problem and my brother Protege Mazdaspeed have this problem too...

Wait for more opinion but im sure that its your problem.

you could also check your hoses...
it prolly has a hose going from the wg to the turbo , and if that was loose, it could make you keep boosting a bit more than the stock setting.

I have a gt28r and a greddy profec type-s. I have the same issue I hit 10-10.5psi around 4k rpm and by the time i get to 8k it has bled down to 8-8.5psi. From what I hear that internal gate just can't handle things and some have also suggested getting it ported to allow more consistant boost. Yehiknowrite had the same kit as me and had similar issues.

This is not necessarily what I want to be hearing considering I just bought a 28R, but lemme ask, are you guys using the WG actuator that came with it? Or one of the universal optional ones?

I'm using the original actuator. Checked all the hoses, and still nothing. So can they just port the internal gate so that it opens up enough to allow a lower boost setting? If so, then that's probably what I'll try next. Any other help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks

yes, A LOT, depending on how you do it....basically you want to round the edges going to the opening...give it a smooth transition

I see, well the turbo is already at the shop being ported. The technician is taking it apart to port the inside and outside part of the wastegate and smoothen all the rough edges.

Another question about this, would a full 3" exhaust help on the creeping ?? Because im running 2.5" DP and bottlenecks down to a 2.25 test pipe & exhaust...Could this be causing some creeping also ?? thanks
