Default GSR vs B20

I have a boosted EK coupe...basically t3/t4 turbo kit running 7 lbs on GSR block b16 head combo. My question is this...I burned a piston on the stock block and now it needs to be honed. Should I put money into this gsr block, or would I be better off trying out a b20 with vtec head combo. Also what all would I need to do to put a b20 in my civic...I currently have the stock ex harness!!

DUDE...why did you post this in allmotor and FI? Which one are you boosted or all motor?? B20 sleeves are notorious for cracking..If the gsr block hasnt been bored out before then id say you should repair the gsr. and get it tuned right!!

IMO you should stick with the GSR block. This would be a great opprotunity to build the motor. You could go ahead and sleeve it and bore it.

Some people on here may disagree with me but going 2.0 or really anything over 1.8 is just bling unless you plan to go all out. But if your just running 7psi on a T3/T4 your intentions arent to go run a 10sec 1/4. So IMO just build the block you have and work from there.

You really dont even need to sleeve it. Unless you plan on running 25+psi.Chances are, you will only have to bore it .5mm over..Get some rods and pistons and you will be set.

You should take the block to the machine shop first.

get the block checked at the machine shop, and make sure its not messed up at all. they wont be able to bore it out until you get your pistons though.

You're right, all that nice extra low/mid range torque and the quicker turbo spool you get out of a larger motor just sucks for the street

it is bling if u ask me too. a b18 block can handle more power than a b20 block no question. it might have a little more lag and lose out on a slight bit of low/midrange but it can handle a crap load more top end. the strength benefits of the b18 block out weight the increase in displacement of the b20 block

I was talking about in the context of a sleeved block because it seemed like he was too, considering he was talking about building the motor and not just leaving it stock.

true..but would it be simpler to build a gsr or a b20...and it is worth doing the whole ls/vtec conversion...so basically a mild build on a gsr compared to a stock b20

ok now that we are on this topic I got offered a great deal on 10.5 compression pistons...would it be safe to run them(yes they are forged) along with scat rods(h beam) on a turbo set up with gsr block and b16 head??

if your talking about boosting 8-10 pounds, i say both blocks are good, AS long as you have it tuned then you shuold be alright..

If I were in your shoes, I would stick with the GSR block like pretty much everyone has already said. I would sleep better at night knowing I didn't have a B20 in my car.
