GSR tranny vs SI tranny Which is better for 500hp+ cars?
I'm just wondering which tranny do some of you guys out there run with 400-500hp+ cars? My friend has a 400hp car with a b16 trans and it spins through all the gears so quickly and I really don't like the way it feels. It may be good for some big slicks because of the short gearing but for everyday use with street tires is plain too much.

b16 with LSD
or ITR
if you like it long then LS is for you,
I like my b16 tranny just because i feel like f'n Juan Pablo Montoya j/k

I'd say the best overall tranny is GSR.. LS gears are the longest and excellent for highway driving, Si and ITR are the shortest and the best for drag racing but also more difficult in terms of getting traction, not to mention it will kill you on the highway in gas if you're cruising doin 80..

With a higher numerical gear ratio, you are putting more rpm at the wheel. With closer gear ratios, you are able to stay at a higher rpm in between shift points. Something like the LS transmissions are suited more towards the broad torque curve/low reving LS engine. It keeps you in the peak torque area in between shifts. The ITR/SI/GSR transmissions keep the rpm's built up in between shifts, to stay in the more peaky powerband.
Having said that, for the track the itr/si tranny is the best hands down. Most high whp turbo engines are operating between 5.5-9k, and having their shift points in between. In combination with a tall slick size (24.5"+), and the high shift point (8.5-9k), you are able to keep the engine operating within the optimum torque curve.
With the LS transmission, between shifts it would possibly drop you out of the optimal powerband and therefore make you slower. Gearing simply put allows you to stay in the powerband of your engine in between shifts.
The myth that you stay in gear longer with the LS transmission makes you faster is purely false. Think about that statement for a second. Acceleration is the measure of velocity over a unit time. Watching the rpms climb on the tach during a 3rd/4th gear pull, they would be climbing slower than with the si/itr tranny. Looking at the definition of acceleration as a measure of velocity over a unit time, the engine would be getting to the same velocity over a slower time lapse. This would yield slower acceleration, and simply put make you slower.
Having said that, the gsr transmission is probably the best balance of a street/strip transmission. The gearing is a little less aggressive as the itr/si transmissions, which will yield a little more traction. For all out acceleration si/itr tranny wins hands down. For a slower car, go with the LS transmission.

to kind of compliment what boosted hybrid said; try an itr/ si gearset with an ls final drive. this will help with the spinning in the lower gears, but won't affect the rpm drop between shifts.

Ehh, if your spinning that much in the lower gears, get a dual stage boost contorller, or better suspension setup/ taller slicks. . .
don't go with the ls final drive

b16 short for spooling that sc61
but also that Lsvtec is going to rape the rubber with the shorter gears.
GSR might just be your happy medium

I'm way ahead on the dual stage boost controller.

My B16 trans with my T4/SC61 is nuts. with 15psi of boost is just burns out until 4th.
BUT, with about 7psi in the low gears it just pulls like all hell.
with proper boost control, traction bars, and some BFGs I definetly reccomend either a B16 or GSR.

Re: (sean)
I'm going to be running 225/50/15 bfg's or some huge m&h dot radials on the street.. That should solve some traction problems.

So anyone know what would be good for the gt35r or the gt40(r)(?), I have a lsvtech built and was thinking of going b16 1st and 2nd with 3rd and 4th gsr and ls 5th. Would it be dificult or can you use the same syncros but just diffrent gears themselves?
