Default GSR Head Repair

Due to detonation one of my pistons broke apart resulting in damage to the head in that cylinder.

This is what the damage looks like:

Ive had several engine builders tell me the damage is cosmetic and it wont hurt anything. I am worried about hot spots leading to more detonation. However they tell me most of the dings are near the outside edge of the cylinder and are nothing compared to the large ridge on both sides of the chamber that is there from the factory.

What does everyone think?

To weld and resurface it will cost me $400. The very same shop said its only cosmetic and its not nessecary. They told me to dremel it down.

Another shop wouldn't even quote me a price to weld and resurface it because they said it didn't need it at all. They said just leave it alone.

There is nothing wrong with that head, it does not need to see a TIG torch, period.

Just take a cartritdge roll and "smooth" the chamber. Don't try to get all the dings out, just smooth off the sharp edges that were formed when stuff hit it. You got away cheap. Enjoy it! ... there's not a thing there to stress about...

In the center of the valve? I think thats just a dark line on the surface. It doesnt look like a crack in person.

Best person I know to repair a Honda head is Don Flores of DFE Enterprises (904)378-4480

I will find the thread where he fixed Mike Corvey's aka VtecKidd's head

i willin to bet its the same head...he just didnt take pics of the right side...it has similar valves and is the same style head...if you look closer youll notice in the 1st pic intake is on top and in the 2nd intake is on bottom....my guess is he just flipped the head around and didnt notice for the 2nd pic....so obviously its not the same cylinder but id bet the whole head floated some valves and he was just showing a comparision pic although i could be wrong

and muckman...personally id just clean it up a bit...and make sure when you tune it again you have idv cylinder fuel trims...cause obviously that cc is gonna be a lil different...slight drop in compression and swirl pattern...some minor compesation so take care of it
