gsr cams in b16
i decided to go with the gsr cams in my b16 when i get my turbo back. i was wondering if anyone has ever done the swap? is there any major things i will need to know or is it pretty much routine cams replacement? can i keep my stock valvetrain,i only rev til 8200, i am using the gsr gears too, will i be able to tune it with those gears or will i need aftermarket ones?thanks guys

Re: gsr cams in b16 (blu2ksi)
I'm doing the same thing on my b16 head. I picked up some stock GSR retainers/valvesprings(dual intake springs) for $30 since my old valvetrain is AUTO b16a(single Intake springs), I figured it would be a costworthy upgrade.
If your current valvetrain at least has the dual springs, I would just keep that- if all you plan on doing is swapping the GSR cams. As far as the gears, if their stock gears- they're not going to be adjustable.

As far as the cam gears they'll be the exact same ones that are on your B16. I'm running GSR cams too, the installation is pretty straight foreward. I think everyone does it a little different, I personally loosen all valve adjustment nuts and then do a valve adjustment after putting the new cams in.

If you have the money invest in some valve springs. I went with ITR outer and Port Flow inner valve springs. You are going to have the head apart so why not

GSR cams are a WONDERFUL upgrade for B16As. I installed them and promptly dropped 0.25s off my 1/4 mile time (I'm still N/A). Now if I hadn't installed big brakes I'd be running low 14s.

The people in this post might disagree....... https://honda-tech.com/zerothread?id=546706
The longer duration would account for the gain in power on a turbo application.

I have seen an 8whp 1ft-lb gain in two seperate motors. The entire powerband changed. It wasn't the same powerband and more uptop.

I couldn't say if you're right or not. I'm going off what I heard in another post I'm talking about 1st-gen B16A cams vs JDM Integra GSR cams, however... where that post is referring to the 2nd and 3rd gen USDM B16A cams, which are higher lift than the 1g B16A cams.

Re: gsr cams in b16 (blu2ksi)
When I had the Greddy Turbo Setup I had GSR Cams in there and I redynoed after putting them in and I gained 7hp and 1ft lb of torque....not too bad of a gain for $100.

Re: gsr cams in b16 (blu2ksi)
gsr cams in a b16a with a turbo will give you a big advantage. I have read many articles and books on forced induction in b-series and what you are looking for in cams, is a high lift with a short duration. You want short duration on a turbo car rather than high duration (like on an N/A car) because you want plenty of time for the mixture to ignite inside your cylinders but when the exhaust valve and intake valve are open at the same time it creates a vacumn affect sucking the exhaust gases out and allowing the new air/fuel mixture to be sucked into the cylinder. The problem is that you don't want the vacumn affect too long or it will suck out not only the exhaust gases but some of your new air/fuel mixture as well because remember you are forcing much more air and fuel into those cylinders faster than a N/A engine. I say upgrade to gsr cams you won't regret it for the money. If you really have some dough, I've been hearing that web cams make some nice turbo cams.

The cam gears will be the same as the ones on your B16, they both use PR3 cam gears. I found my GSR cams for $100 and it came with a GSR block

Nothing needs to be done to the valve train to put the cams in. Just putting in cams won't change how high you can safely rev though.

Re: gsr cams in b16 (beta13)
Ive got a friend that slapped some in his B16 he loved the difference. He never dynoed so I couldn't say exactly what his gains were.
I also have a set of GSR cams for sale. 80 shipped (they are basically brand new 9k-10k on them). I can take pics aswell, and have a vouch thread.
