Default Greddy Turbo Kit Down Pipe

I just ordered a Greddy turbo for my car with all the trimmings and was wondering if anyone with this kit has ever modified the down pipe that comes with the kit or fabricated a new one. The problem is the kit comes with a 2 in. down pipe and I would like a 2.5 in. one in order to fit into my carsound cat. Does anyone already make something like this for the greddy kit? My guess is I will have to make it.

Yes! The 2.5" fits best. If I went 3", it will rub one of my charge pipes and the oil pan.

I'll try to post some pix tonight and felt a better pull on the high end!

You'll going to get someone to fabricate you a new downpipe if you want to replace the greddy skinnies.

That's kick ***! Did you have someone make that for you or did you do it yourself? I have someone lined up to do it for me. Where did you get the mandrel bent pipe from? Also how did you connect your new pipe without the donut (in other words where does the donut connect or are you using something else as a gasget)?

Thanks

lol! Oh yah... I had to get it done from this one muffler shop and came out pretty good. The shop that I went actually already had mandrel bent 90 degree pipes so that was easy for me. Bolted right back up and yes, there's a donut that connects between the dp and the test pipe.

Default Weren't there reports of spiking...

...and creeping with the 2.5 and especially 3" dps on the Greddy kits?

I want to make a 2.5" dp but not if it's going to cause nothing but problems...

Anyone?

Mine's holding fine @ 7psi with 2.5" dp. The only way you'll get spikes or creeps is when your wastegate starts to go bizerk!

No problems with my 2.5" DP or straight 3" exahust, wastegate tends to hang on fine untill around 14-15psi.

I want one... The 2.5" downpipe would be great for my set up. I have a '99 GSR w/ Greddy turbo kit and Hondata 2B. Gruvytune will soon be tuning my car.

Anyone selling one that'll bolt onto stock cat? How much would it cost to have it custom fabricated by a muffler shop?

Default Sweet...

...thanks for the info guys.

I know this topic was covered before, but I tried searching and couldn't find it for reference. All I could remember from it was a bunch of people saying that the larger dps caused spikes.

2.5" dp here I come!

Does anybody replace the second, smaller, part of the downpipe that connects the turbo and the larger part of the downpipe?

It'll work unless you like putting dents on your oil pan and pinch the oil return line.

The 2.5" dp bolted on as a direct replacement from Greddy's skinny dp by copying the exact measurement and the way the flanges sit. The 3" dp will need to be custom fabricated for it to fit correctly and as a pre-caution, it can be a headache.

so people just replace the larger part of the downpipe and keep the part that connects to the turbo? from the image above that DB8GSR posted that is all that was replaced. Not the smaller 90 degree part that comes off the turbo.

yeah i think you gotta keep the cast part that bolts to the turbine housing. that part is pretty cool i think that was a good idea instead of some of the crazy welded piping i have seen that clears the AC compressor by making a severe angle out of the turbine

Well, the 90 degree cast downpipe is small also. so would the 2.5 downpipe really help that much, if the beginning part of the downpipe is a lot smaller. But thinking about it, it would be smiliar to art's downpipe that was 2.5 then flared to 3. so yeah i guess i answered my own question i might just have to look into getting the 2.5 inch downpipe, but then i need a 2.5" cat, and then a larger exhaust, damn, Turbo is priceless .

Not sure if most regular muffler shops carries them but it's easier to find them on some custom domestic muffler shops.

<-- GReddy kit w/ 2.5" DP and flex.

Mine Downpipe looks exactly the same as yours, but it goes from greddy downpipe ---> 3 inch downpipe.
