i can understand how someone that's not familiar with turbo setups feels the greddy kit is the way to go. it's mostly because it's a bolt on kit and it's from a reliable source. I can tell you coming from someone that's doesnt know very much about FI, i was able to piece out a kit with VERY good parts just by research that i had to do, and the help of a local shop. I'm talking from everything relating to the turbo setup like 44mm wg, bb sc61 turbo, ramhorn mani.. etc..., including fuel and management... all for about $4,500 (including labor). just about $1,000 over a greddy (complete) kit and i have unlimited capablities. i made 373whp @ 12psi on pump gas. now, my motor is built top and bottom, but even if yours isnt, you already have all the equipment you need in order to make mroe power if you wanted to build the block.

my suggestion is peice one out to your needs. if you want no more than 250-260whp PUSHING IT with a kit like greddy's, then that's your route. If you want to make 300-320whp without building your block at the same PSI you would be on a greddy kit, peice one out accordingly. good luck.

I don’t agree with that. I had a great understanding of turbocharging before shopping for a kit and still opted for the Greddy kit for several reasons.

1. I don’t have the time nor the resources to piece together a kit. I live in rural Ohio so everything would need to be shipped to me. I also did not want to get into having to fabricate things to make stuff work.

2. My goals with my car are modest. I don’t want to go over 250whp, so I just needed to buy a kit that is capable of that.

3. I was looking for and end result that had an OEM fit and finish.

4. AC and PS was a must.

5. I wanted to keep extra mods down to a minimum. IE: cutting the block webbing, things of that nature.

6. Price. I don’t know about other people, but when I crunched the numbers, I couldn’t piece together a kit for the price I paid for my Greddy kit. I found an almost new kit with BOV, and intercooler for half of the retail cost.

I know of a brand new kit going on another forum with intercooler and BOV for $1,500. Deals can be had if you are patient and look around.

If you know what your end goals are, what your plan to achieve, and what you want, then you can decide what will best meet those goals.

This shouldn’t be a Greddy vs every other turbo kit. This kit is ideal for some and not for others. Period. You just need to look at your situation and decide for yourself.

My kit on my gsr made 246/221. Its set at 8 psi but spikes to 13... I dunno whats up with that, im still trying to work with my tuner.

I need to get a bigger downpipe and better flowing exhaust and Ill be making more power. I plan to upgrade my trbo later, to a gt3071 or gt3076, im still trying to decide.

I really do think it;s a worthwhile kit although it could be a little better. It's a great turbo kit for just starting out with forced induction, you learn a lot.

For a daily driven car, the Greddy kit is a lot of fun. Other turbos are going to kill you in a straight line, but on a twisty road, the 18g is a blast.

I HATE it when people do this, but if you plan to use a Type 24 intercooler, I'll be putting my brand new one with piping, couplers and clamps for the 99-00 Si up for sale one of these days. I ran, and continue to run the Type 31 until I re-do the piping on my car and sell everything together. The Type 31 is nice because you don't have to cut the bumper support. Both intercoolers allow you to retain the stock foglights with a little cutting of the foglight bracket.

See if the Edelbrock kit is in your price range. I could be wrong, but I think it comes with a GT28RS, which is an awesome street turbo. Good luck with your choice!
