Got my built motor.... problems... NEED HELP!!
We put the new motor in (built internals, amazing head)... New action 2md clutch, resurfaced flywheel, new bearings etc. It wouldn't turn over at first and then tegasaurus found out that the alternator wasn't hooked up correctly, so we hooked it up and now it idles rather roughly... i have some lumpy cams in there for now until the remaing parts of the turbo come in... anywho..
The car starts, gets real lumpy, throws some smoke out of the breather. checked the plugs and they are BLACK. Cleaned them and started it, it started and stayed that way for a little bit.. ok so lets go for a test drive.
It wont go in any gears. Something is wrong with the clutch etc... what do you guys recommend we do? If you turn the car off, put it in a gear, then start it, it'll jerk forward (as if it was in gear). What could the problem be... possibly the throwout bearing? and is there a right/wrong way to put the disc on (flywheel side vs PP side).
Help!

ive done numerous clutches, but honestly i know the disc has to be in a certain way.... Im not sure if everything will bolt back on if its on the wrong way.
Anyway, check your shift linkage, and make sure all that is good.
The next thing to do is, check your clutch resevior, bleed out the clutch, and also see if the shift fork moves back and forth freely when clutch is being depressed.
How does the pedal feel?

All the shift linkage is hooked up and everything is good with that. We bled the clutch line numerous times and everything is ok with that... also the resivoir is full and there is no problem with that.
The pedal feels like it should... stiff
I think it has somethign to do with the throwout bearing or the clutch disc.. the clutch goes in fully and doesnt make any noises or anything. it is just stuck in the engage point

ok to fix the gear problem get under your clutch pedal and u should see a nut on a stud. pull the pedal out with your hand and undo the nut and screw the stud so it would take up all the slack. sounds confusing but when u look at it its easy to do. same thing happened when i installed my clutch.

I hope we're talking about the same nut/screw... if we are, i can call you the biggest idiot on the face of this earth.
That nut/screw just acts as a pedla stopper. it has the "car start switch" on it. So when the pedal comes all the way out, the switch is depressed, keeping the car from turning on. When the pedal is pushed down, the switch goes out, allowing you to start it.
That nut/screw just takes up the "dead pedal" from the master cylinder, it doesn't "add" any leverage to the pedal.
Then again i may be looking at the wrong nut/stud.

Um, yeah, take your foot out of your mouth now. turbod16y8 is right, that's the pedal adjustment, and it will adjust how far the slave cylinder moves and help disengage the clutch.

if all else fails...you might have to take teh tranny apart and check the TO bearing and diaphram fingers...you never know. even if it's a new clutch, it could still be bad. MAybe whoever put that clutch together found out his wife cheated on him the night before or something like that....

like i said, maybe we are looking at the wrong bolt/nut here. Actually, i do stand correct in that the switch, that i thought was the car enabeler switch, is the cruize control cancle switch (so when you press the clutch in, the cruise controle will turn off).
I have the exact same problem that RPC07 is having in my car, so i tried taking up the "dead pedal feel" or the play in the pedal by losening that nut and moving the screw closer to the pedal. It effectively eliminated all pedal slack/play however the car still does the same thing.
Then thinking that maybe i did the exact opposite, i chose to make it so there was MORE slack and i backed the bolt out nearly all the way... same results.
like i said, maybe im not seeing what bolt/nut combo you are talking about.

puttin the disc on backwards is like bolting on your distributor 180 degrees off...HOW THE ****?
if u managed either of those, please take your poor car to someone who knows what they are doing

actually, its not because you can only bolt your distributor in about a 20 degree span... not 180 degress. but anywho, its not my car and i didn't do the install, i just helped with the tranny removal and problem assessment.
