Got low compression? Check your intake manifold first. *PICS*
The story:
I decided to switch out my tired stock GSR motor for a stock ITR motor out of my buddy's 98 ITR. The price was right, and being OCD like I am, I wanted an ITR motor out of an original ITR so I bought it for cheap.
We threw it in my coupe back in February, and it ran like absolute **** and on 3 cylinders on initial startup. I was completely bummed, because I'd been planning on boosting my motor as soon as we threw it in. Well so much for that idea. My buddy hooked me up with a little money to help me out, although he was completely stumped as to why his perfectly running when pulled ITR motor was running like **** when put in my car.
I was so mad that I just let my car sit as I ordered parts for my new turbo setup. This morning, I said expletive it, it's time to pull the head and get this bitch running for this season.
Well, being the lazy bastard I am, I chose to pull the intake manifold off the head before pulling it off the block (didn't want to deal with fuel or throttle cable ****). Boy I'm glad I did...here's what I found in Cylinder 3
It turns out that my buddy pulled off the throttle body when he was pulling the motor, so as not to damage the sensors. He stuck a shop rag in the intake manifold so nothing got in it while it sat in his garage.
The only problem was that he forgot to take it out when he bolted the throttle body back on and sold the motor to me - so that's why it got lodged in the intake manifold when we started the motor.
No worries though, it was a honest mistake and my buddy who sold me the motor helped me out when it happened.
To keep it FI-related...Now I'm ready to put my GT3255E to work!

Did you go buy some lottery tickets?
I take it the car ran fine after you removed that.

Glad you got it fixed Fnan...let me know how that turbo works out for you...mine is fun, but that topmount makes it spool a little slow....still 306/208 on 92 octane w/ 11.5 AFR's is pretty good...its really conservative and could have made another 30whp if we just messed w/ timing and leaned it out a little more.....

Re: (EJ1 wilcox)
A guy I worked with once did a headgasket on a 3 liter v6 ford and he stuffed red rags in all 6 cyl put the heads back on with them still in there and when He went to fire it up it blew out the block literally blowing 6 holes in it . Had to buy a new motor
