got a few questions, not sure its this is normal or not!
Ive had my car tuned and running for about 4 days now, and jsut wondering if this is normal, im running a open dump with a egay bov.
-under light accel and boost when i let off the gas or shift i get a fluttering sound that sounds like its coming from turbo side of engine (thinking compressor surge but not sure how to make sure)
-ive noticed that my boost gauge has been fluttering the last day or two
-my bov flutters when it lets off instead of one gush of air, and also the piston in the bov is rattling a little, im going to shim it a little and see if that helps
im sure theres more but not sure. id take it back to tuner, but hoping i can fix it myself as tuner is about 2 hrs away!
boost is anywhere from 4 (wg spring) to 10psi depending on what i set the mbc at, and i have a everything coming off a vacuum block thats tapped into the brake booster

ive noticed the fluttering sound anytime i left off the throttle, and the boost gauge flutter usually happens when im in say 4th and instead of down shifting to 3rd i gas it and it usually flutters between 0-4psi.

right now, its closed at idle, but its takes a little force to open it so it dumps. so i should adjust it a little more so it ill be almost open (dumping) at idle?

definatley ment to say barely stays closed. SORRY one to many landsharks tonight.
just lighten it up to where the it is open at idle, then take it back down just a notch.
Personally I just leave mine as light as possible, even open at idle. The only problem is, that your getting unfiltered air through there untill you press the gas and the BOV shuts. I get an extremely loud Blow off, by the way.

its really up to you. but it sounds like its just a little too tight. In my case my engine just sucks in a little unfiltered air, rather than destroying my turbo

well i checked mine when i got home, and the top of the piston is a little bit above the opening it dumps out of, so ima mess around with it a little tomarrow, i can always add shims if i get it to loss.

try hitting the throttle really fast and then clsing it really fast while its at idle. This will tell you how fast the BOV opens. If it is really slow, I would replace it with something a little better. I used to get a lot of Compressor surge when I had my ebay knockoff hks seq

Does it happen under full boost?? Or is it just a small amount. I had the same thing and it was just the sound of the wastegate since it was only a small amount of boost.
Check all your vacuum lines to the BOV.

well i adjusted the bov a little more, not quite open at idle, now when i shift i get a flutter on the turbo side of engine bay and right after it starts i get what sounds like a belt squeeling sound outta the bov. sorry thats the best way i can word it. guess maybe the bov still needs to be made weaker? the bov does flutter anymore, just kinda squeels!

Re: got a few questions, not sure its this is normal or not!
try making it as weak as you can, or take the adjuster out completely and give it a few good revs. Sounds like the BOV is stuck, might also try unbolting the top and check the diaphram and piston/valve. I have a cheap BOV and it happened to me

Re: got a few questions, not sure its this is normal or not!
ok, i was gonna try it again after work tonight, mine is the kind with washers in it and i dont think its got a diaphram just the piston so ill take all the washers out, hell if i doesnt get any better ill just start cutting the spring a little by little, i know its not the right way, but if it works till i part it for the winter ill be happy.
im confused on my the piston rattles at idle in the bov. i know its the piston cuz if i put my finger on it the rattling stops!
if im following you right, at idle the bov should still semi work then? sorry for noob questions

I would think that you have the bov set right, by now. I would try looking at the wastegate. Mine flutters a lot, where do you have its vaccum referenced from?

Re: got a few questions, not sure its this is normal or not!
ima try to adjust it one more time tonight / tomarrow. its almost open at idle but still not. and all my lines are going to a vaccum mani that is T'd into the brake booster
im not sure if its just my dumptube fluttering or not, cuz something ALWAYS flutters, but every once in a while when im part throttle a gear to high or so, my boost gauge needle flutters to, thats y im thinking compressor surge?

Try removing all the washers and cutting off a coil on the spring. And yes that's compressor surge. Get it fixed soon cause I've heard compressor surge can mess up a turbo.

ya i think i got a few washers left, but if that didnt help im cut a lil off at a time. i know thats not the right way to do it, but like i said, as long as i can get it to work until winter ill be happy.
on another note, i have my hallman mbc connected to the side port on my wastegate, with the top port open, that correct? its a turbo xs (not the ebay one) wastegate
im noticing the fluttering sound anytime im around 0 boost and above, and ive noticed the boost gauge flutter at 0 boost just a little bit, maybe a pound or two, but when i get around 3-4 psi, it will flutter from 0-4 psi until i throttle down!
