Default Got the D16 cooling blues - Solution inside >>

I consistently had high oil and water temps in my boosted D16 after several hard runs and needed to do something about it.

Previous Setup
Oil – 250+ / Water - 225+
-Spearco dual core radiator
-12 inch proforms fan – 1600CFM / puller setup

New Setup
Oil – max 190 / Water - max 200
-Spearco dual core radiator
-Permacool 14 inch fan – 2950CFM / pusher setup
-1 bottle of water wetter
-Sterab 11x6x2 oil cooler
-9 foot of steel braided 8an line and fittings
-ebay special sandwich adaptor

The car does take a little longer to heat up at idle. I may install a thermostat later if this becomes a problem, but it’s like 5 extra minutes maybe. It’s 92+ out today and I seriously tried to get the car to overheat and I couldn’t with this setup.

Total cost was ~$250

it helps to block the flow beside the radiator. at highway speeds the air will flow right past the half sized radiator, making it much less efficient.

nice man, im having overheating issues with slower driving.. I need YOUR fan!! and your oil cooler setup im sure id be fine!

Im looking at this kit here..

https://honda-tech.com/zerothread?id=1659574

what do you think of that kit? Im going to compare the core sizes and junk.. My car dosent get nearly as hot as yours, but anything over 195-200 under any conditions is too hot for my likings!

I have the same junk 1600cfm fan you used to have.. I need a bigger/stronger one and have lots of room to mount as a pusher.

oil cooler I dont think is a good thing. I was under the assumption it will be too cold under normal driving conditions.

Good for a track car, but on a street car i dont think its a good idea. Maybe u were fine beating this **** out of it in hot weather, but what about driving down the highway on a cold day? your oil temp would be way way lower then what honda intended it to be.

195-200 is good. I"d say you are fine.

Put a thermostat on it and it will keep the oil in the engine until it reaches the proper temp.

You have to have your oil up to at least 212 degrees to burn off all of the water that can create damaging acids.

A shroud around your radiator would help as well. Even blocking off the other side of the grill would help unless you need it for your intercooler. Putting the dust shields back under the car will help keep your engine cooler.

Seems like your oil might be a little too cold now.

with ya on that. it's about 165 all the time. after a couple 16psi pulls it might go to 180.

is 165 something i need to worry about or....

the car seriously feels alot better now. its just asking to get beat on constantly

Sorry to ask, but what's the best way to run the fans?

Puller style?

I hope I don't have any overheating issues. Going with a 12" slim fan on passenger side, capable of 2100cfm. And I'm going with a 10" on the driver side capable of 1400cfm. I will be keeping a/c and power steering. Also t3 turbo on log manifold.

Do you think I will be okay? I am going to be running an Integra full size radiator.
I might heatwrap my dp, and manifold, if I do start to feel that my temperature gauge is passing the middle.

Sorry for threadjacking, just seemed like a good place to ask for advice.

Might do water wetter also, but if I don't do the water wetter, and don't heat wrap the mani, and dp, do you think I will be fine with the fan setup I just mentioned as pullers? Or no?

puller style is the most efficient way to mount the fans.

what 12 inch fan is rated at 2100CFM +?

you should be fine with the setup you have and i would run the water wetter, it's only 8 bucks and cant hurt anything

Yes there is a problem if your oil never warms up. It will kill your motor, plus it will not offer the proper protection that it was designed to. You should get a thermostat and run it in line. Then you may need to cover some of the oil cooler to allow the oil to come up to temp.

Yeah, it's no wonder the b18bturbo fans are so cheap...

I'll defintely be ordering a better fan in the coming weeks.

In the summer, you should run 20% coolant, 80% distilled water, and water wetter.

It's summer all the time in Florida. Maybe I should start running this combination? What is everyone else using?

Straight water and dishwashing soap. I put a little coolant in for the winter.
