Default Good turbo or junk? Help

I'm researching turbos to get for my b16a2 build and I found this one on enjuku racing t3/t4 .63a/r 50trim for 399.99. Is this a crappy ebay brand turbo or is it decent? Power goals are gonna be 400-500. Also found on max-redline.com a Stage III gt3071r .70ar compressor housing and .63 turbine housing for $405. Is this a crappy one that won't last long? I typed in gt3071r on google and some say $1000+. I'm just trying to find a turbo that fits my goal (400-500) and is cheaper than $500-$600

Both of those turbos are ebay specials.

You wont find a good, new turbo in that price range. For $7-800 you can get a journal bearing turbo. The ball bearing ones start at ~$1200 and go up to as much as you want to spend.

You might be better off getting a used high end turbo, or used oem. One of the holset turbos would probably work well for you, and can be found pretty cheap.

What kind of holset? Aren't those turbos for diesel trucks and stuff like that?

There are certain models that people use that seem to work well on these engines. You would have to search to find out any more info than that, because I just dont know any more haha

Or you can just save your pennies and get a real 2860 from Garrett. Solid turbo choice for a 1.6L. You have to pay to play - whether you pay now, or pay (more) later is entirely up to you.

Ever heard the phrase "if its too good to be true, it probably is"? Check the prices on real turbochargers (Garrett, Borg Warner, etc) and compare for yourself. There's a reason the Ebay specials are half the price...they're less than half the quality, but look reasonably similar to the untrained eye.
