a good ring gapping tool?
As the topic sais.
Does somebody know a good ring gaping tool that makes this work much easier?
I donīt like the game with a file or a Dremel anymore.
A time ago I saw a ring gapping tool with a little electrical motor on one side and a dial indicator.
Does someone have pictures or a good source where I can buy it?
Thanks

This is what I use. Once you get the hang of it, its easy to get square cut, consistent rings. I recommend buy an extra ring set or two in case you mess up. Or practicing on some old rings first.

I made my own.
materials list:
2 - 90 degree steel fittings with 1/4" npt threads
1 - scrap steel plate
1 - piece of 1/4-20 threaded rod for an axle
4 - 1/4-20 esna nuts
4 - flat washers
1 - 1/4-20 nut
1- cutoff wheel
1- arm off a scrap limit switch for a handle
4- scrap rubber feet
4- 8-32 self tapping screws
Drilled a couple of holes in the plate, tapped them to 1/4" npt. Opened up the port in one fitting to 1/4", drilled through the other fitting so the axle could fit through. Used the grinder to create the slot for the cutoff wheel. Also put 4 rubber feet on it so it doesn't slide around. I did all this after work in about 1/2 hour using scrap parts.

Do you have any issues filing the rings square? I like the Summit one because its easy to hold the rings against the center peice and get perfectly square ring after ring.</TD></TR></TABLE>
I made sure the cutting wheel was square to the plate. I also put in some screws on the surface to hold the ring (look by my thumb and you can see one)
I assume the cut was square...I don't have a measuring tool small enough to actually measure squareness on the ring end
