Default Going to have head work done

I have decided to get my head looked at. Hahahaha I think I am going to send it to portflow. Now, the real question is, what all would you have done if you were sending yours? Upgraded valve train? Ferrea valves? Springs? Retainers? I would like your opinions.

I am trying to make the most power I can while staying under 12psi on a stock block. If and when my motor goes that will be a different story.

you ever think about doing the bottom end instead? For the same amount as you'll get charged for the head work (P&P,valves, rets...etc) you could get a set of pistons, eagle rods and a block guard and get a lot more power. Just a thought but hey...it's your dime.

when i was thinking baout getting some head work done i was looking into Portflow also. I was planning on going ferrera valvetrain with .5 over valves. But i opted to not build the head and just do the bottom end and boost it. The stock honda heads are good for alot of hp. so why not just leave it stock and build the bottom first?

i would build the block first, but if u already took a decision then i would upgrade the springs and retainers

He has an LS.
The non-vtec's suffer the most due to the head not flowing for ****. I first would do the bottom end, but if money allows then go for the head as well.
In my built LS I had a pretty sick head setup. It went as follows: +1mm Ferrea intake and exhaust valves. Portflow guides. Crower Race valvesprings--the better of the 2 they offer. Stock retainers for strength and longevity. Sick port job, basically if the valves were lopped off then it would be a race-only port job. 5 angle valve job and valves backcut to match.
Just needed cams, but I sold the head before I had a chance to run a set.
One important thing. If you decide on valves, make sure you have the seats touched. If not then you could easily lose lots of power.

See the thing is I can buy an LS head for next to nothing and ship it for cheap. A block costs more and a lot more to ship. Sleeves are about $800 right? So is head porting. Pistons and rods are a lot more than valvetrain though.

Actually. You can buy my head that I described above from the present owner. Here is his FS thread. Pics are worth a thousand words.

Ferrea valves run about $26 dollars each. Pretty cheap to replace if you ask me.
