that stuffs the shitt... i used to always read threads about the gm fluid fixing mild tranny grinds but i never believed how just a fluid could do such a thing, well i finally decided to try it in my type r trans that had a random grind in third and what do ya kno, after changing to the gm fluid within a few weeks there was no longer any grind

This is good ish. Had it in a cable b16a tranny with a mild grind in third gear.
Within a couple of weeks the grind was no where to be found. However, It will not fix all problems as I have a type r tranny with a heavy grind in 3rd gear and it seems that synchromesh won't help. But after seeing it work in my one tranny, I'll always use it. Hey at five dollars a quart, it's still cheaper than buying a synchro.

i like mixing syncromesh and Lucas gear oil for my transmission. The gear oil stays well lubricated to all parts it surfaces..

I use it, it's great, but pricey. IIRC it was like $8-9 a bottle, when I bought it. And that was from the GM dealership.

So what are the differences between all of the different crap that you can put in the honda tranny? ie, what is "friction modified"? what is the difference between that and normal motor oil?
The way I look at it, it's syncros vs gears, I mean, something with more lubricity makes life harder for the syncros but easier for the gears, right?
Is there a fluid that is the best of all worlds here?

Same here. Had an annoying grind in my cable GSR tranny when hitting 3rd at higher RPM's. Decided to give the Pennzoil stuff a try. Grind IMMEDIATELY was gone. tranny never grinded ever again. Now thats all I use...going on 3 years. Stuff works wonders

woooow dont put that 80w90 **** in there! lol thats Diff spec oil. IF u have no mtf 10w30 motor oil works fine. That 5th gear grind was fixed when i put GM synco in it

gm fluid is just that, a band-aid to an issue. Taken from another site, and taken from a service bulletin.

Its purpose is to burnish the synchro on the gear that's having problems engaging. It's actually a recommendation in the Dec 99 Acura Service News-

"On an M/T vehicle with less than 2,000 miles, you
can sometimes fix a shift grind by burnishing the
offending gear’s synchronizer. Here’s how:
1. Make sure the clutch releases fully by shifting in
and out of reverse with the engine running and
with it stopped.
• If the shift effort is higher with the engine
running, the clutch is dragging. Repair it as
needed.
• If the shift effort is the same with the engine
running, go to step 2.
2. Park the vehicle outside, away from other cars,
and set the parking brake.
3. Raise the engine speed to 2,500 rpm.
4. Without pressing the clutch pedal, apply light
pressure to the shifter toward the gear that grinds.
The pressure should be the same as when you
engage the gear.
5. Hold the pressure for 5 seconds, then release the
shifter for 5 seconds. To avoid synchronizer
damage, follow these intervals exactly.
6. Repeat step 5 carefully 10 times.
7. Test-drive the vehicle. If it still grinds, you may
need to disassemble the trans, inspect it, and
replace worn or damaged parts.

What? That procedure, not the fluid, is to burnish the syncro..the gm fluid just has different friction characteristics than the honda fluid..are you suggesting that the gm fluid wears out the syncros more?

I need to try the gm style fluid myself, my tranny grinds 2nd and 3rd if I try to shift as fast as possible..

I use it and love it. I'm using the one with FM. it's like a dark brown color. it works great. never had a problem with ginding in the past but don't want to start so I stated using this.
