GM 3bar Map sensor problems
Quick questions for everyone. I have installed and tuned a few 3 bar map sensors, but I havent ever asked around where everyone gets them. I decided to order a 3bar map sensor a month ago from GMPartsDirect.com. I got the correct part numbers, order the sensor and it looked identical to the others that I used in the past. I installed the sensor today on a customers car, Hondata did not seem to like it at all. It acted identically if you were to just start up the car with a 3bar map sensor on the stock computer. The idle was rough, extremely rich. Hondata was set up in the maps for the 3bar sensor, and I tested the voltage output of the sensor. Before the engine was turned over it didnt give the characteristic 1.67 volts, it was 1.85 volts. We pulled off the sensor, put on the stock one an headed to the dyno. Where does everyone order their 3bar's from that runs Hondata? I have always had the customers bring me the sensor and installed it with zero problems, and my personal 3bar sensor came from a Haltech wire harness kit.
Hondata recognizes that it's software is having issues with the GM 3 bar sensor. There is a software update V3.5.1 that addresses calibrations as many tuners have noticed that calibrated mechanical and electronic boost gauges disagree with hondata's interpretation of boost pressure. Perhaps your sensor is a 2 bar version?

hmmm. I have the 16040749 sensor. I hope mine works. Are they all the same model number as mine? The box mine came in was a ACDelco box. Yours too?
I had no probs hooking mine up and working. double check wiring. I got mine from gmparts direct. someone sent me a link to the different map sensors and i just copied and pasted that number for the 3bar. They actually sent me a different part number but it worked fine.
Edit- you said it came with a wiring harness, try to find a piggy back from the junk yard. I found a million of them when i went there.

I havent had the time to check if its a 2bar or 3bar map sensor or not. I have a feeling that they didnt send me the correct sensor. The wiring was correct, and soldered as well. I double checked the voltage drop across each connection as well, and everything was correct. I have hooked up at least 5-6 of them already with zero problems. This is the first to cause a headache.
i've been hearing about problems with the GM MAP sensors for awhile now, the fact that some that are supposed to be or thought to be 3 BAR aren't therefore making problems with tuning using Hondata. it seems that most people get the 3 BAR MAP from the GM direct site, but not all sensors gotten have worked properly with Hondata. so that makes me think twice about randomly ordering a GM MAP that's supposed to be 3 BAR but may not be.
there was a recent thread about using the MSD and GM MAP sensors with Hondata.
i asked what # i should look for when trying to pick up the correct MSD or GM 3 BAR MAP sensor but never got an answer. i'd hate to spend the extra $$ on the Hondata MAP if i can locate the correct MSD or GM one.
hope it gets straightened out! prolly just sent the wrong sensor, not a 3 BAR.
