Default getting some engine knock

Well....
ive never really had any serious problems with my car.
untill last week. ive been boosted since october with the drag kit, running 6lbs. im coming up on my 3,000 mile oil change and i noticed was VERY low, under the second hole on my dipstick. i added a quart and it was fine. but where has my oil gone? im not leaking, no spots on my driveway, and im not burning it out my exhaust. i have the shitty drag oil return so maybe its just dripping out and melting away before it can drip to the pavement?

im getting a slight knock under acceleration, nothing major and no real loss in performance but i can hear it. almost like piston clatter?

anyone have any ideas?

well might be piston slap? have you ran a compression test, leak down check? if you have a leak down thatmay be where your oil is going, its called blow-by. just a thought not to sure though.

This is the part of boosting nobody tells you about. You probably have a rod bearing going bad and maybe some rings also. Pull one spark plug wire at a time and listen for the knock to go away. That will tell you which bearing or wrist pin is bad. You may be losing oil past the rings but not bad enough to smoke or could be losing it at the turbo seal. You need to fix that knock very soon or it could be curtains for your motor.

Your car is fine. I loose 1 qt of oil every 3000miles. My compression is 190+ leak down is excellent. My car has been with turbo for 45000 miles (drag III).
Car has a total of 107k miles.

get an oil with a higher flash point...

Easy way to tell if your knock noise is detonation - retard your timing at the distributor like 3-4 degrees and go for a drive. If the noise goes away, you had slight detonation. If it doesn't, it's probably a mechanical issue; quite possibly a rod bearing (which happened to me not too long ago). You need to get this taken care of FAST or you may find yourself stranded and very unhappy soon.

it pulls the same, and doesnt sound like a metal on metal rubbing or detonation, it doesnt at all sound like the analogy i always hear: Detonation sounds like: A bunch of rocks in a tin can.

i might not even be using the correct word here, maybe knock is the wrong sound. it just sounds like i can hear each revolution of the motor, its hard to explain. its not a ping, scratch, or metal on metal. its almost like piston slap? i dont know.

the car still performs just like it always has, no loss of power and still pulls like a mother ******.

perhaps just from shear heat and viscosity im going through oil? i also am starting to seriously doubt that Drag oil return.

im using mobil 1 5w30.....should i change this?

also, the knock doesnt explain why im low on oil? and like i said perhaps im using the wrong word here, could someone describe "knock"

sounds like you should be fine then man. Just remember the higher compression you have YOU WILL LOOSE SOME OIL...FACT and that turbo is definatly upping the compretion ratio while under boost. dont sweat it, if everything is tight (no leakdown and detonation etc.) than just run it!

have fun
