Default Getting Back Into the Scene....maybe

Hello,
I use to be an avid H-T member years ago under a different name.I have had a stock never modified gsr for awhile. While i have grown older and my priorities have changed, there is always something in the back of my mind that kinda wants to modify cars.I have a 1998 GSR that is completley original and in perfect shape.Im sure it could be boosted as the engine is 100%.Im not looking to make the car into a tuning nightmare.I was thinking if i did want to mod it i could just get a turbo kit and go from there. However i have heard that even the kits need to be played with alot.I just want the most reliable kit out there.I think greddy might be my best bet.Anyways this post is really just kinda to help me make up my mind.If its gonna be a nightmare.Im not gonna do it.But if i can bolt on a kit and just keep up with regular maintance i just might do it.Any help would be greatful.

As long as you research your parts carefully you can pretty much do it hasslefree.

That is a complete DIY Turbo install guide by a friend. He didn't run into any problems with his setup.

You will need:
Turbo
Intercooler
IC Piping
Charge Pipe (some IC Piping kits don't come with the charge pipe)
Silicone Couplers and T-Brackets(Rubber DOES NOT WORK)
Exhaust Manifold
Downpipe
BOV
Wastegate (unless you buy a turbo with an internal)
Engine Management System (Hondata, Crome, Uberdata, Neptune)
Fuel Pump
Oil Lines and Fittings
Vacuum Manifold
Oil Catchcan
Clutch
Axles (if your plan for HP is over 300, which a turbo GSR easily makes)
BRAKES (you need to upgrade your brakes system if you go turbo, it will save your life)
Cam-Gears (helps with tuning a bit)
TUNING (get you car tuned before driving it, or at least street tune)

Find all those of good quality and you will have a very reliable and easy DIY turbo setup. The problem that many people have with Turbo setups is that they don't always check to make sure every part is going to work with eachother or they forget to buy certain parts/buy the wrong parts.

you don't need a catch can, or a fuel pump, or a vacuum manifold, or axles, all a waste of money if you're only going for that low of horsepower

a catch can is def not a waste of money, in fact many people in this forum highly recommend them. As for the rest I only stated them because he didn't state a HP goal and he said <TABLE WIDTH="90%" CELLSPACING=0 CELLPADDING=0 ALIGN=CENTER><TR><TD>Quote, originally posted by Wolverine! &raquo;</TD></TR><TR><TD CLASS="quote">I was thinking if i did want to mod it i could just get a turbo kit and go from there.</TD></TR></TABLE>

I appreciate all the time you put into writing down the parts. But honestly thats a little more than i wanted to do.I think its probably better for me not to get involved with a turbo kit.I want to buy a house within the next year or two and all the extra money will help. Thanks guys for pointing me in the correct direction

True true, Ive spent over 2,800 on turbo parts and I still have to get a few things, Im to the point where its like WTF am I doing?!! Why spend so much on a peice of metal just to make it a little faster and sound a little cooler, its crazy. But im pretty sure I wont regret it in the end (I hope)

if your willing to spend the money so have sweet car than do it, if not, keep it stock

I just wanted to boost my car to a modest 300whp now look at me a month and about $3k later I'll be pushing 400whp and right now all I got is a built block in my uncle's garage sitting next to the blown one and my civic is sitting right next to them with a hole in the engine. Becareful on what you do.. For what you are looking for get a greddy kit will be the simpliest and the best option.. Maybe even a jackson racing supercharger.

i think this guy was kinda kidding, hence the smiley.

and as far as money goes, the only problem for me so far has been the want to upgrade. nothing has broken or needed to be fixed. it has been very reliable. its just that there is never enough hp

to the original poster, i think you should do it. just do it right. set an hp goal and then peice together the parts to achieve the goal. i wouldnt worry about getting a kit. it either wont have everything you want or will need something added, like engine management.

The owner of this car online name is '' Wolverine'' also, but you prob already knew he also uses that character from x-men in his avatar so I took a guess.
