gem built engine burning coolant
not blaming gem at all at least not right now cause i dont know y its doing this.
ok i had this problem i believe know since i first but the engine in just didnt really notice it. i didnt notice it until i really started driving it cause when i first put the engine in i only drove it for about a 1000 miles and then parked it. since i started driving it again i noticed thats i smell coolant burning. its not leaking a drop. but after driving it i can smell that coolant burning smell. my hg went on my like 2 weeks ago and i started to think maybe i was smell in it cause my hg was going bad in a good way cause it didnt mix with the oil. after replacing hg i started smelling burning coolant again. everytime i drive it i smell. so my question is how can i tell y its burning coolant and is it something that gem did. i have godzilla sleeves, eagle rods and arias flat top pistons. also golden eagle i believe put a channel around coolant passages wich i didnt come stock. it has a new hg and still burning coolant. also this is a jdm b20a i believe the only 3rd gen prelude engine they ever built. also this engine has never seen boost yet
see the channel
do u think that this could cause problems
somebody help me i paid to much money for this block for it to be burning coolant on me

Re: gem built engine burning coolant (Prelude91siT)
Are you using copperspray on the HG?
Has the head been checked for straightness?
How much are you torquing the headstuds?
What headstuds are you using?
Are you torquing in the correct sequence?
May have sunken a sleeve. . . .

Re: (Prelude91siT)
I would use ARP head studs first off. Second, what kind of sleeves are those they dont look like Godzilla Sleeves? Also what head gasket are you using? ANd have you had the Head and block checked for flatness?
Good luck

Re: (Prelude91siT)
Get the head and block checked for straightness...
Then Get some ARP headstuds, OEM ones should not be used on a built motor....They could have stretched already giving you a false torque reading (doubt it)
Then re-assemble and see what happens.

Re: (Prelude91siT)
To burn coolant it has to enter the combustion chamber and there are 2 likely cuases. #1 is through head gasket and a far distant 2nd is through the intake manifold gasket. There is a coolant line that runs into the head through the intake manifold flange near the #4 cyl.

For all that means, it could be leaking and burning off something else in the engine bay....check

Re: (Prelude91siT)
Okay, so it's not leaking externally,
yet,
not burning through the engine's combustion process...
Then I'd say you don't have a problem.

then how come everytime i get out my car i can smell it. i dont believe its burning in my combustion chambers cause i dont see no white smoke when im driving. its more like its when u drop coolant on ur manifold im getting that smell like it touching something reall hot and just burning. but i cant spot a leak now where. and its smell like its coming from around the block and head area

Re: (Prelude91siT)
sounds like its leaking from somewhere external that you may not be able to see. it will smell like coolant if its pooling on something hot. just let it idle up up to temp and thouroughly check around the engine bay with a flash light. inpect every coolant line.
