Default garrett turbo question

Thinkin about picking up a used garret turbo and but the only info on it is on the housing. Its says .60 A/R M24. Trying to figure out what trim it is. I know I can open it up and measure but was wondering if the answer was in the serial number. Its 466159-5004. I googled the housing spes and apparently it was available in a few diff trims from 48 to 60. Any help and info anyone might have is greatly appreciated. (Thanks in advance The Shodan!)

That is a T3/T04E 60 "trim" (not to be confused with a super 60), in a T31 4bolt .63A/R. Its a good turbo to about 430-440whp absolute maximum. (Don't ask how many psi it takes to get there, because your motor probably isn't built).

Nice turbo good idea. make sure its in good order.

Nope not built YET. Can't wait to check it out tomorrow. How much do rebuild kits usually run? Think it would be a good idea to rebuild it before I use it since its used? Thanks again for the wisdom!

Not necessarily. Remember, these were designed to run tens of thousands of cycles for a number of years.

If you want to invest in $350 to do so, that's fine, but its best to find out if its necessary first before making that kind of investment in a repair.
