Re: Fuel pump?!?! (zojirushi)
zojirushi: I noticed in your sig it said Automatic? Here's some 441 -- a friend of mine and I were both boosted with automatics. Neither one lasted more than 6 months. But turbo automatics are awesome! My friend did a 5spd conversion, and now he's getting worse 1/8th mile times (used to get 8.5, now he can't even break 9's). I'm getting my auto rebuilt (yep, Level10). Low boost won't save your tranny either -- I was only 5.7psi.
If your sticking with a stock auto tranny for awhile, some advise:
1) DON'T do any neutral-rev-drops (i.e. shifter in neutral, rev up to 4-5000 rpms, then drop into gear)
2) DON'T do any break torquing (i.e. hold the main break, press the accelerator to rev up to 2-3k rpm, then release the break for a faster launch). You'll get better times, but it *will* fry stuff in the tranny (and it won't "feel" like it's doing any harm -- but one day, the tranny will just suddenly give out and not stay in gear anymore).
3) Install an external tranny cooler. 40-60 bucks from PepBoys. It might not seem like much, but it will help.
If you do all of the above, then your auto tranny might last for awhile -- enough time to save up for a 5spd conversion or get the auto rebuilt. But don't expect to use a stock auto tranny for too long....
