a shop said i needed an aftermarket fuel pressure regulator so he can tune my car. i have a garrett t3/t4 turbo kit. i got everything except that..and he wants me to get it before he tunes, and also said something about my check valves. i'm only gonna boost around 8 psi.

A Walbro 255 is a fuel pump, unless you are worried about the 255 over running the stock regulator. I ran a stock regulator on mine forever with a 255 and had no problems. The only reason I put an aftermarket one on was when I was going for bigger numbers and needed to raise my rail pressure to get more fuel flow.

From the sounds of it, if he is wanting a regulator and talking of check valves, he is trying to give you a dynosaur FMU setup. Find another tuner and get your car chipped and actually tuned instead of the crap he is trying to sell you. the car will run like stock and be healthy unlike what it will do with an FMU setup where it will be stressing out the injectors and slowly killing itself.
