Fuel pressure pulsating
Ok here is a new one. The other day I get to work and there is a ticking sound coming from the dash. I had just done a third gear pull in boost uphill. So I’m like great I finally killed it, no biggie I need to get off my *** and build the other engine up that I had been procrastinating on.
I drive the car home later that day put it on stands and start poking around find where the ticking is coming from. I really can’t narrow it down, the injectors seem a little louder than usual but I can’t back that up because they have always been loud as hell.
I pull the spark plugs, they look fine. Pull the valve cover, valves are adjusted properly and the timing belt is snug. Run a compression test numbers come back same as they always have been 180-190 (I know that’s low but has been that way since day one no smoking or burning oil). I throw my hands up and say screw it, must be fine.
Drive this weekend and that F() ( |< ing ticking is still there. I notice my fuel pressure gauge, the needle is vibrating a little. I pull the panel out so I can get to the line and I can feel it. I have mechanical gauges ran through the dash with braided stainless steel lines and the line is making the sound. This never happened before. I have a walbro 255 in the tank probably a year old. The needle never did the vibrating thing before either. It's not wildly jumping around, just rapidly fluttering a psi or a half. What would be causing this?

pump going bad?
i just replaced my 1 year old walbro because it was dropping pressure......never made any ticking noise though....just the annoying whining noise they usually make........

I don't know if it is ticking all the time.
but watch your system voltage. The Walbros like to drop volume when voltage goes to 12v from 14.1. See if your ticking coincides with voltage drop, if so, this is normal.
Also, the dampers on the rail, are actually spring backed, check and make sure it isn't your damper that isn't worn.
