Front mount and the rain
hey guys im pretty new to the forced induction game and was wondering..... im about to put my kit on, but its starting the winter season in socal, would the rain goin into the front mount screw things up??? noob question but need help
thanks guys
thanks guys
It actually helps the front mount. Rain helps cool the intercooler and thus helps cool the intake charge.
Snow is even better!
My turbo civic loved the snow, until boost hit that is, and I lost all hope of traction.

Actually Rally cars HATE the snow...get that stuck in your intercooler and it'll block the airflow. Charge temps rise and BOOM goes the motor....happens everytime. This doesn't apply to us though thank god...haha
BTW none of us drive in the rain because we would all get hydrolock otherwise....whatwere you thinking....turbo + rain = don't do it

Yeah the rain cools the IC really well, just like a water sprayer in the subaru's. The colder the weather, and the wetter the weather, the faster your turbo car will feel.
Rain is the best, but then of course you have traction problems way into 5th on the freeway...

well if its your only car or daily driver...just don't mash on it through the rainy season...you figure the new evo's have fmic...factory you will be fine....drive as if you got a cai and afriad of hydrolock...drive with precaution but its true tho...cool weather cooler charge pipes and lowest intake manifold air/temp ...which means more power if you can hook up in the rain
Not sure if you understand how it works or not. But a turbo system is a pressurized unit. The intercool has no way for water to get into it. The air or the water if its raing just passes through the fins on the cooler the air doesnt actually make it inside the cooler. Hope that helps a little. If you already knew that I was just kind of going back to basics

haha.. thats the same exact thing i was going to say... if rain affected a FMIC why would they be mounted right in the front of the car inches off the ground? but honestly, good luck with your car... just hang out in the FI sections for a while and try to learn as much as you can before you go tearing into and blowing **** up... good luck

Well damn! I figured since the turbo was tucked all up in the engine bay it was pretty safe from water. Damn, still have to drive scared.

your joking right? I definitally drove my turbo rex with no filter in the snow ALL WINTER ok so i know its bad but expletive hydrolock on a turbo car.. Unless your sittin in a standing puddle all its doing is sucking up the air and vaperizing it.. just like really ghetto water injection, givin its not good if its way to much but i drove all winter in plenty of snow
