for the Forced Induction folks....
just a question; i know they say that there are a few ways that a boosted vtec motor can be destroyed, IE; boost creep, running lean, overboosting, all of which result in cracking sleeves/pistons, etc.,
but what i was wondering is, isnt there a way to prevent any of that stuff? Like through the computer, if you're running an OBD1 setup?
I've heard of some way that Subarus keep that type of stuff under control, like it does some kindof ignition cut, or "safe mode" if the computer can sense the engine starting to overboost? Is there something like that for those of us who use Crome for tuning, or is that a feature that exists in Hondata only?
(or does it not exist at all......?)
I'm only asking because, well i haven't gone FI yet, but when that day comes, i just wanna know how to prevent destruction before it even has a chance to happen.

It's not preventable, if it were then no one would blow up their multi-thousand dollar motor setups, no one ever decides to go "ehh I'll just blow it up today, I'd like something else to do."
that said, things like a good tune, good fuel, proper parts, and strangely common sense can keep the chaos organized and manageable. There are safety checks in place with Hondata, while I can't speak for chrome, Neptune etc I'd surely hope they have them as well. Overboost protection, cold warm up boost protection, etc. However none of the computer setups are going to have idiot driver protection. They simply do the best they can with as much technology as possible to keep us from F'ing up the whole setup.

Subarus, DSMs, Evolutions, Mazads, Mustanges ALL face the same challanges as any other turbocharged (or NA for that matter) vehicle. Even with these safety features that you've stated, it can still go wrong if not tuned well from the beginning.
sorry to thread jack, but this topic run with this thread. Is there a lean fuel cut off or motor shut down using a wideband....like if the ecu start to seeing a lean mixer then it shut the motor down....that would be nice.....

Hondata has this exact feature. I am unsure if the others do.
IF TPS > 80% AND MAP > xxx mbar AND lambda > 0.90 THEN cust ign./fuel.
something along those lines.
