Forced induction and engine strain
I've been researching different forced induction setups for a while now for my 2000 civic EX, and the greddy kit seems like a good "street" kit. The turbo is small so it spools up at roughly 2000 RPMs, so you get plenty of around-town boost. The bigger hybrid turbos however, like Drag, Revhard, Fmax, etc all spool up at around 4-5000 RPMs. My question is would the larger hybrid turbos actually be better for your engine's health since you won't see boost until aroundbefore 5000 Rpms? Does this mean that you could drive your car daily around town, without boosting very much and just save the higher RPMs for racing situations? Would it be better for your engines life rather than the Greddy kit where your engine is being boosted almost throughout the enitre power band? If kept at low, stock boost levels, will the engine that boosts sooner put more stress on the engine than the hybrid turbos. Sorry about the length, just trying to find the best way to ask this. a larger turbo is ultimatly better, considering it will make less heat and more power off less boost.. spool up time is not really that big of a deal as long as its stays fully spooled between shifts and u dont fall outta turbo.. a turbo that spools up by 3500-4000 should be fine for most racing situations..
