I'm looking at turbo-ing my LS... Can't decide betwen FMAX and Revhard... Any ideas about the pro's and con's with these two systems? What about reliablility and/or reputation? Any ideas? Thanks!

This is what I was told was best for the LS...from FMAX:

T3/T4
B Compressor housing
S Trim Compressor
Stage 2 Turbing .48 A/R

I was told to go w/ the .48 cuz it will spool up quicker than the bigger ones, and we dont need the high rpm flow of the bigger ones.

If you havent ordered already, don't get the .48. Everyone who has it complains that it doesn't flow well with the b-series. I'd go with a .50, it's a quick spool, and gives pretty good top end.

ok, so how about revhard vs. fmax? which really is better?

ok, what about this... how much could one save by not buying the kit... buying the individual pieces seperately... or mix-matching pieces from different manufacturers.? What do you think?

And by "B series" do you mean non-vtec B18B or do you mean the standard B 18.....

I mean the whole b series...b16 b18 b20. Oh yeah and unless you have a hook up don't bother making your own kit...it's too much frustration trust me. Between revhard and fmax I'd go with revhard. Do a search this has been covered in the past...

Well then you are just the man I need to talk to, lol. Why is it that you like the Revhard more? I thought the FMAX manifold and wastegate was better than revhard's... and what about the air/fuel computer thing that FMAX comes with? One other question is which setup has the most potential when used on a built engine? Does one boost higher than the other? Does one spool faster? etc..

Thanks!

PureTeg420,

The .48 exhaust housing doesn't "suck." It all depends on the characteristics of the motor. Yes, most B-series engines wont like it and might need a .63 exhaust.. but this is ONLY because most B-series engines can rev to high (6.5k+) rpms. The B18B that the LS's are equiped with only have a redline to 6800rpm.. in this case the .48 exhaust housing will serve alot better than a beefy .63. Less lag and better torque curves.

I never said it sucked, i said it doesn't flow well with b-series engines. I've been there before with a 92 LS engine in fact and t3/to4e .48 a/r turbo..have you? I can tell you that I am not a track runner I mainly have fun on the street..and I get a hell of a lot more pleasure out of my .54 a/r then the not-as-good .48

the t04e might also be the problem there. I'm not sure about this, i dont know a lot yet, but i know the t04b is smaller and is better fitted for the b18b.

I'm not sure what you're saying. I'm sorry. Can you explain to me what you mean "(I) get a hell of a lot more pleasure out of my .54 a/r then the not-as-good .48.."

From what I understand.. the 54 you're referring to is the T04E trim right? The exhaust housing sizing has nothing to do with the compressor housing. T3 exhaust housings only come in .36, .48, .63, and .82. Yes you might get more please from a 54 trim than a 46 trim.. but compare apples to apples not apples to oranges.. unless I've mis-read something.

heh i think i'm the one who made the mistake here. I've been referring to trims, not exhaust housing. But here's what i was trying to say...Old turbo = .48 trim w/ stage 2 wheel (i forgot the a/r), new turbo = .54 trim w/ stage 3 .63 a/r. The new turbo responds to the b18b a lot better then the old turbo. My new turbo is also ball bearing, but i like power @ 6800rpms, and with the .48 trim you could feel the turbo was starting to choke near redline. sorry for the confusion
