Flex pipe on downpipe? Yay or Nay?

Default Flex pipe on downpipe? Yay or Nay?

My manifold and downpipe keep comming loose, and i'm sick of taking everything off just to bolt it back down tight, plus its not easy with a/c still. This time I put Lock tite and lock nut washers...hopefully it will stop it.

I look at my current exhaust set up and I don't have a flex pipe on my drag downpipe, its about 2-3 inches after the downpipe, and i'm guessing that the vibration caused by exhaust gasses and having a lowred car keeps causing my **** to get loose...Will a flex pipe cure this problem if i get one installed on the downpipe??

any suggestion?

Never had any problems with my downpipe w/ flexpipe... I say go for it, it makes sense as it absorbs the vibration and whatnot...

the lock tit should do it..i dont think you need a second flex pipe,you have one after the downpipe right?

Id say the loctite will cure you rpoblem with the bolts coming loose. If you dont have a flex pipe on your dp at all i encourage you to get one. On my first DP i didnt have one and after awhile the DP cracked right at the flange on the turbo.

Do a flex pipe... It can't hurt anything... It allows for so much more movement from the downpipe in case of motor flex and or bottoming out..

Actually, the loctite is only good to about 400 degrees so it won't do anything for you in this situation. Lockwashers are the way to go...

I had a flex pipe, loctite, and lockwashers and STILL had a problem w/ bolts backing out.

I doubt locktite nor lockwasheres will completely solve ur situation if u race alot. They will help but most likely the motor is torqueing too much and there is alot of stress on the downpipe and manifold bolts.

I think the best solution in welding a brace from the downpipe to the motor like the stock header has. Bolt the brace to the motor so the downpipe is still removable. That should relieve almost all the stress on the turbo. that with a flex pipe, loctite and lockwashers you should be good to go.

I had the same problem even tho I have a flexpipe in my downpipe. The bolts holding my turbo, downpipe and manifold nuts and bolts either came loose or fell off several times.

Try studding everything. I've studed my downpipe and its held up to the abuse so far, metal wired the 2 pairs of bolts together at the turbo to stop them from turning and if the manifold still comes loose I'm gonna restud the manifold with longer studs. Loctite will probably melt away at those temperatures. Def get a flexpipe to prevent parts cracking.

does anybody have pics of the braces that will hold the downpipe to the motor..i need ideas.

So the reason for a flex pipe is so nothing cracks or breaks when your engine moves around inside the engine bay? I've wondered wth they were for for a WHIIILE now but have been too lazy to look it up.
