Default first time posting here

hi guys, this is actually my first time posting here on FI. the reason for this is because i was always afraid of it. my civic is my daily ride, and i was afraid that it wouldn't be reliable. but as time progressed, the slower my car got, and the more power i wanted. N/A sounded good, but I also read alot of mishaps about LS/vtec. after alot of research,i am finally convinced that boost is the best bang for the buck. i did alot of search, and i didn't find a real answer, so here is my question. a friend of mine told me that i should use a sohc turbo instead of a dohc turbo. it would be cheaper for my price range. he said i would run safely w/ 7 pds of boost, and i wouldn't need an intercooler. he said this should run me about 1200 bucks...instead of a greddy kit that would usually run around 3500. is this true? can i get away w/ a nice turbo system for only 1200, and still run reliably? please help me out...i sorta want this to be my christmas present from my rents, and my sister. if this is just a dream, and not a possibility..i guess i would have to wait a lil bit more and save.

Alot of people use the sohc turbo kit on their dohc engines with good results. I would get an intercooler though. What kinda boost you wanna run?

i only want 7 pds of boost man. i dont want to be worlds fastest or anything. i just want boost now. all i really want is high 13's as my goal. nothing too extreme. ill even be happy w/ 14.1 with full interior. i just need to learn more...and i'm hoping all u boost experts can help me. i always admired people who boosted their cars...cause i never had the ***** to do it. now i think i grew a little one..hehe so i'm very interested it in now. thanks for the reply ivan.

you have a b18b right? I would go with the sohc kit and a side mount intercooler from an eclipse. 7 pounds shouldn't be a prob. You shouldn't run into fuel probs doing 7 lbs but in case you want added security you could go with a upgraded fuel pump. Theres a guy in here with a b18b boosted EK running the sohc greddy kit. If you wanna IM his sn is donniek.
