Hey guys
I have a 91 CRX Si and I just purchased a B18C4 from the UK that will be here next week. (Build thread coming soon)
I plan on doing a frame up resto on the body, but we can cross that bridge later.
Im more interested in feedback and/or opinions of my build plans for the motor. I called and talked to Dan Benson last week and have decided to have him sleeve my block, as Ive read a lot of good things about his work. The rest is just my best guess at putting together a solid, reliable motor. Im looking to get 500-600 whp from this setup, while maintaining daily drivabilty.
My internals list is as follows:
Je or Wiseco 84mm forged pistons (still debating)
Pin upgrade & Manley H beams
ARP Head & Main studs
Supertech 85lb turbo springs & Ti retainers
Supertech Valves & Bronze guides
GSC Turbo cams
AEM Tru-Time adj cam gears
Cometic Street Pro Top & Bottom Gasket sets
ATI Street Super Damper
Aeromotive Stealth 340lph fuel pump
Skunk2 74mm TB
Victor X IM port matched to 74mm
Fuel Rail (Aem, Skunk2, Golden Eagle) Not sure which if any is best
1000 cc Injector Dynamics
Precision 6262 dual bearing turbo
Tial 44MVR WG
Tial Q 50mm BOV
P28 Chipped ECU w/ Hondata S300
Ive sourced all these parts from the cheapest (non ebay) merchants, and am ready to pull the trigger, but I thought Id be wise to throw the list out there and let some experienced minds chime in on my choices before I make any costly mistakes

Luckily I have 3 gas stations within 5 miles that sell E85. Ive heard sky is the limit with boost on that fuel, and its quite a bit cheaper than 91 or 98 oct..
Any thoughts on the piston or fuel rail choices?

E85 is 1/3 cheaper but you get 1/3 less mpg so its a wash. If you want to run E85 then I would suggest bigger injectors and possibly more fuel pump.
Fuel rail doesnt make a difference, any kind you want is fine.
I like Wiseco but JE is fine too. What compression do you want to run?

That being said, there are often conflicting opinions on just about every topic I study, which is why I wanted to reach out before I emptied my bank account...

My ID1000s maxed at 460whp (Standard CF) on E85 with dual Walbro 255s. Mileage may vary of course. I was at 100% duty and trading rpm for boost to keep from going lean at the track.
The octane advantage of E85 allows you to run more compression safely. h0ndafied take a look at my build thread linked in my sig to see how far you can push E85.

Ok so after some research and scouring local gas stations, I was able to find 2 places offering Torco 100 octane at the pump..
Would this be a better choice of fuel?

I appreciate you taking the time to share your build, and for leading me there. Tons of great info, which begs more questions now. I am however, fairly pleased to see that my "best guess" choices for sleeving service, cams, and valve train match your choices, as I would consider you to be extremely quality conscious of the parts you would use.
So Im sold on the E85 fuel.. As for my fuel delivery problem, would the Bosch 300lph inline pump in addition to the Aeromotive 340lph do the trick, or is this even possible? If not, how did you set up the double Walbro's? Link to a write-up?

Im also sold on the Wiseco's, but after the problems you encountered with the weaker, high cr n/a pistons and std pins, would you happen to have any part #'s for both of the upgraded options so I can bypass all the extra motor tear downs.. I literally feel sick over all that extra work you have to do, but you are paving the way for future builds like mine!
And a random question for any fellow CRX owners with huge power.. I see vids all over youtube with 5-700 hp, but they either have no bumper mounted, or have their IC and piping mounted out in front of the bumper.. Is there an IC set-up capable of 700whp, that will fit behind the JDM bumper?? I just spent big $$ on a complete JDM front & rear conversion, and I would really rather not have my car look like some freak of nature.. I plan on DD the car, not just a weekend track machine..
Ok last random question for now.. I live in northern Indiana, which puts me 2 hours from Chicago, 2 hours from Indy, 3.5 hours from Detroit, and 4.5 hours from Cincy/Columbus area. I know Hondata provides a list of certified tuners for their product, but Im looking for the top tuner(s) in my area.. I want this done right by someone who really knows their $h!t.. Any opinions and reasons for such, would be much appreciated!

You picked the worst chassis if you are concerned about looks and high horsepower. As far as wrist pins and such, it was all covered in "Muckman"s build thread somewhere around page 22. You might actually have to do some reading...

This question will probably turn into an arguing match, but ProFunction in Chicago would probably be your best bet if they are still around. All the other shops are just scam artists. SlowMotion in Ohio may be an option, but some of the tunes I have seen haven't impressed me much. Pretty much no matter where you go around here, you will need to clean up what they do...

Admittedly, I missed the link he attached about the wrist pin part #'s, but he never stated which piston he decided to go with.. Just said it was the same volume but beefier..
How far would I need to drive for a good tuner? I was afraid this would be a problem in my area.. Seems like most of the good ones are in CA or FL
