Fire Ring
hey everyone,
as some may remember from this thread that i cracked my #2 sleeve: https://honda-tech.com/zerothread?id=2340496 . so a friend was in need of my wastegate and when i pulled it off we noticed the fire ring was gone (wastegate had previously fallen off but didn't notice the ring had fallen out). my friend insisted that my car shouldn't have been able to build boost, but it did, and on 8-9 lbs i cracked the sleeve. so will the tial wastegate function properly with the fire ring removed? i run the turbonetics fire gasket and i didn't notice any major leaks. just wanted to clear the confusion i have with this and if there is any relation with missing the fire ring and having my sleeve crack? i still really don't know why i cracked a sleeve?

ive already sold it and hes replaced the fire ring. i know it wasn't in there though because i took the wastegate off the manifold infront of him and we were like wtf?

Brandon, it is possible to build somekind of boost WITHOUT a fire ring. it does depend on wastegate placement and how well the gate will pickup back pressure, remember your gate has been moved from its primary position of where it was intended to be
YES you DO need a fire ring in the bottom of the gate in order to seal the gates valve otherwise you have just over an 1/8th of an inch of free flow around that valve.
Remember i kept saying it sounded like you had a mini exhaust coming from the front of the car when it was on the dyno? ACE also said it too, so that is where all that was coming from. i aslo said it felt kinda lazy for a 57 trim on a JDM B16a. we were seeing 8lbs @5500 rpms.
As for why your sleeve cracked im not sure bro. but i can almost assure you it had nothing to do with the missing seal ring, if anything it saved your motor and let it last a little longer.
If anyone ha any questions about the setup or tune, I am the one who tuned the car, and was tuning the car when it cracked the sleeve
