Finding the best swap.
Hey guys, just looking around and I was curious on the answers id get.
So I have a 1994 civic coupe with the D15B. I have about a 5-6000$ budget when I return to the states. I want to do a swap to something with DOHC.
I know people say go B series. I wouldn't mind running a SOHC, and pushing it just to be able to trash talk cause a SOHC beat them. So ill go either way. I love labor, so buying, swapping etc I don't mind. I have nothing but time. Im not so much looking for it to run the quarter mile, just more a street monster. Any info, links, etc would be great.
Thanks guys,
Adam.

So that's for engine swaps, now what about if I keep the D15B? What kind of power would that make and what would I be looking at to replace after a month?
I have built d16y8 motors from day 1. I live by them. Cheap and make enough power to where you have trouble hooking so I personally need no more. Read my signature below, they're all d16 motors from vitara/eagle being cheapest to at full forged making most power but most expensive. in the 4k range done right and by myself except for tuning

I did do research. I felt like making a post to get a better idea of what I want. I did look at FAQs, I have been doing research and looking all around. Thank you for that replay for FAQ though kind sir.
He wanted you to get this:
1) set hp goal
2) is it a daily?
3) drag setup or road race?
There are so many variables to this and this broad of a question shows a lack of research. So when you research, you then research and when you think you're ready research more. Most of us searched for either hard long months or years prepping for our builds. When you have goals set and some knowledge based questions more people are willing to help. You basically said I have a civic and $5k, what should I do? Goals and just know that a built car is not necessarily the most dependable so maybe get another car first if you wanna do a build the right way.

1) 350-400 Ish
2) I drive it to and from work maybe 3 times a week. Mostly going hard on weekends,
3) 99% Street.
Ive been doing research while ive been in South Korea. Ive been on a number of forums, PM people and figured id start a forum to get my own feed back. I have a second vehicle. I picked this up cheap and wanted to build something I can cruise around Friday night and shut all the big v8 muscle heads down in my area.

Look at my sig. I have cars ranging from 302whp to 426whp. The 302whp car is the most fun on the street to be honest. The car is detuned from 350 to that on purpose. 12 second car all day and fun while doing it. Hooks and goes. I'm partial to the d16y8 motor and a little old school in my choice of building two vitara/eagle forged bottom ends. Do that bottom end with a ported and polished head with a Brian crowder stage 2 turbo cam, a decent intercooler,id1000's and a Walbro 240 pump and u can have a 400whp car or imo tune it to 320whp and have a blast on a turbonetics.57 trim as lag isn't dramatic but just makes enough power. A DYNO TUNE is most important and I choose to go with hondata s300 as engine management. Especially closer to 400 on e85 if that's an option. Drag radials, Traction bars, qualify lad on a y8 trans with comp stage 4 clutch. All this can be had well under your price range done yourself but with someone else building the motor maybe not. Don't forget an innovative wideband to monitor your tune as well as oil pressure, boost gauge, egt and oil temp. It gets expensive quick if you do it right and you gotta get adjustable dampeners up front to help hook if your in that 300-400whp range. I've successfully built two like this and another with supertech pistons which is even more money.
So with the Ej6, have you messed around with any v8s? Like Camaros, 5.0 etc. That's what im looking at. Around the city im in, they all have a exhaust and cold air intake and think they are the fastest thing on the street.
They are 13 second cars at best. All 3 of my Hondas which are d16y8 are 12s or faster and they HATE being run down by a turbo civic. They get the kick from a dig but I come by them in 3rd like they're sitting still. I trap 20mph faster in the quater than a stock mustang(aka intake exhaust). I had a 10 second Camaro that would smoke my cars but not nearly as fun to drive as these ek hatches
The best part is my two red cars are identical down to the wheels but have almost 100whp difference. Great for making money but the 302whp car hooks so we'll in high boost its almost just as fast on the street. Now the track is a 1 second difference because of full traction in high boost

You say you've read and done research, but you're asking these extremely basic questions, which makes it clear that you haven't. **** it, though, I'll bite. My old Y7 with a beat up 14G from a Greddy kit outran stock 4.6 GT's. 300 WHP should be able to outrun any stock NA V8 car (except the top end models/trims), and you can easily get that out of a turbo B swap without having to open up the motor. If you're really set on 400, again, B swap, with good forged internals and a properly sized turbo. Put a good transmission on it, and you'll have a great DD that you won't want to drive when it's raining. Good being the operative word there, though - no, a stock LS transmission is not good. A GSR transmission is better, but for those power levels, an LSD shouldn't be considered optional.
So there ya go. Five grand in, and you'll have what you want. Now go back and read the FAQs some more, until you actually understand them.

Definitely look for a hydro GSR trans with something like a Mfactory LSD if you are going to push 400 wHP. That is my goal and I can say that a cable clutch is ALRIGHT but a hydro is probably better. Pick your choice of rod/piston combo and go with a B-series. Any B-series will work, so if you are on a budget, go with a B18A/B and forged internals. I have a .57 trim garret that tops out around 400-425 according to what I found. Something like that is definitely the way to go. Size the turbo to be efficient at your power goal. I'm pretty sure Neptune (maybe hondata too) can run multiple tunes. Set the 400 map up for the track and use an electronic mac solenoid to run more like 250-300 whp daily.
Bragging about a single cam just seems stupid to me. If you have a built motor, it is a built motor. You'd be swapping it out too. A fast car is a fast car regardless. With 400 whp and a good setup to keep traction, you may be able to get into the high 11's.
Get ready to piece together a set up for best results. You get more for your money browsing for slightly used or new in box items.
