AWSOME!! Mad props to you if it works and even more if it'll work for about a month or so! I love it Let's see some videos!

If there was a competition for the most ghetto fabbed turbo kit, you'd take the prize!

haha.. yeah.

I knew the flaming would be non stop

As for the battery, it was in my 4D.... I changed my alternator and battery out the other day for a new batt and new alt. So I put the optima in the ricemobile.

Everything in the car screams ugly... that's why the budget setup..... I got the car for free... not bad for the money invested.... in-fact all cash invested is from doing random side work for people (oil changes, valve jobs, chipping etc) so it feels like a free car (which it was one) and untill it is nice, it will stay looking like rice.

as for the o2, I have the stock one disabled and hanging there, the exhaust is hella loud... all you hear is the turbine =P And for the fuel... well, it has no DP yet... correct... no tune, but I have a rich base on it just untill I get a DP on it....
It isn't like I have put more than a mile on the setup yet. I already made a base tune for the motor, so building the boost maps to be somewhat close isn't hard.... if you have basemapped you would know this.

Painting the piping? I think I am going to just cover it in black PVC tape or something.... Just so it doesn't stand out. The wastegate blockoff plate is in the mail... coming shortly. The BOV just needs to have a hole drilled in the charge piping near the TB, I just need to get the right drill bit.

The DP is going to be made soon, I just need to get off my *** and bend one up.

For the hose on the turbo inlet, I used a connecting pipe from a 01 Jetta to the filter... it was free and it works great.

as for all of the right equipment... I never said I tuned it yet... the only way to do that is ditch the oil resivor (just a little tin cup that fits into the oil inlet) and plug in the oil outlet and do it up right.... We have used this oil resivoir on turbo's shiftercarts. It has proven effective for smaller/temporary applications.

I already have a TT blok fitting with 3 outputs. I just need to get a pressure line, and a return line to mate up with the fitting that is in my tapped oil pan (I think it is an Andrews fitting... looks like an AN fitting but is a compression fitting)

I already have a few friends trying to by the car as-is off of me because it is just too funny.... but this is the ebay-craigslist rice project.... it's not like this thing is a lambo.... I mean for christ sakes I am boosting a D15B8... can we say "rods like toothpicks"?

I scored an ECU for this project... even though it has a chiped/converted P06, I found a P28 off of a Del Sol at pick 'n pull yesterday... $45.... can't beat that price. Now I have another ECU to use when I do another chipping/tuning jo b for a buddy.

I honestly find it amusing when people flame someone for being cheap; for any reason or not. Just because alot of $$$ wasn't spent doesn't mean it is bad or won't work.... everything so far is sound, it just needs a few more small peices to be complete enough to get a first tune.

That peice clamped over the wastegate port is a peice cut off of a "no skateboarding" sign my buddy has in his garage... he just cut a peice off, bolted and clamped it.

When I left that night... when I took those pictures, I came back the next day to find my whole radiator fan shroud on the side facing the turbo outlet melted to ****.... so I asked my buddy if he went joy-riding... he said only down the street... but I knew different.... later on in the night, he told me yes... he did... but because of the clutch did not go far... but I showed him the fan shroud and he said he would buy me a new one and admitted joyriding it a little... whatever... at-least he had fun =P It also makes me glad that I set the boost ign cut at 7PSI... cause he did complain it would cut out on him.

As I stated in the first post, the turbo's outlet is facing the drivers side now. So pleanty of room for the DP and no interfearance issues with the charge piping are seen.

This project is barely on the boost road right now. I am only on my lunch right now... this is one of the odd saturdays I work, but if I can get signal I will post up some more pics of the ride... as well as some other footage of what I had to deal with...

to sum it up... kid gets a built motor from a shop in town. Less than a month the kid blows it up... it seems like a bad HG. The shop refused to work on his car, so he came to my friend asking for help. My friend bought the parts but didn't know where to begin to get it done right, so he asks me to do the work. once I got the head off, I packed up my tools and had the kid pick up his car on a trailer. The idiot lied to our faces about the motor blowing, ran the wrong plugs, wrong fuel (87 oct) and beat the **** out of it.... later after he gets it back, I find out he blew the motor racing one of the mechanics that built it!!!

I made a thread on that car on pgmfi.org here is the link:
http://forum.pgmfi.org/viewtopic.php?t=13617

If you can't view it, just signup and you can.. it is a good site to be a part of.

So go on... flame all you want... it makes me want to put a HUGE-*** ricer wing on the back to make people laugh. Hell the interrior is already rice, why not make the exterior the same

that's all you have to add? I would like to see you do more with the same budget buddy! (including vehicle price) Not to sound rude, but I pass on the same respect!

and one more thing, I noticed someone out there thought I was running no wastegate? the turbo has a flapper internal wastegate; and it is hooked up... so 7PSI it is...

I checked my boost cut in my settings right now, I set it to 7.7Psi, so the cutouts must be surges (to be expected). But I am unsure as I have not had a logger on it yet.

Keep up the flames! I need fuel for this fire

i was going to say something about no downpipe melting everything and covering the whole motor bay in carbon....

as you said your friend said it cuts out on him...haveing your internal WG at 7 lb shouldnt make your car cut out but just not boost any further...

blah whatever...

and one more thing

HMT ftw if done decent...

this is just crazy...running 7.7 lbs with no IC also probably losing a good bit of power since your probably suckign in all that hot air from the lack of downpipe...turbo will be shot soon since you are getting compressor surge from lack of BOV.

of course that oil what the expletive thing you have on there...

Who cares what it is made of..... If it works, it works. Yes it may be ghetto as hell but it’s his car and let him so what he wants with it.

Agreed, just because it's not the best of the best and doesn't cost 3 grand doesn't mean it won't work. Now I didn't say it will deffinetly work WELL but screw it, have fun with it till it dies.

Today after work, I had a chance to drill a hole and install the BOV flange... I made the hole barely big enough to fit the flange in (it is beaded on the end so it is in there good) and JB'd the BOV onto it.

The intake pipe has a hole large enough to reroute into the intake/air cleaner for quieter operation.. but I am in it for the noise with this setup right now.

Once the oil line kit is in, I am going to be putting in a K03 sport with 40K miles on it...

water injection off the winshield resivoir... good thinkin!!!

Naw, I won't go that ghetto, this is just to see how far we can get this thing for as little as possible.... we are gonna be trailering it to the local exhaust shop next week (when I get paid) to have a DP welded up for it.

The T3 is coming off in a few days so we can get a K03 sport onto it... it has a better compressor map for this displacement motor... and the turbo only have 40K miles on it.

and... death-trap? lol.... ok, now if there were no brakes/lights/etc then I would consider it that.... ****, I have seen worse in my day.

It's funny how all the flamers shine true right away, then the support hits in second... lol.

You start by screaming "budget build" and people start breathing fire down your neck how it is going to explode and whatnot...

I already have some fittings and lines coming in for the T3... I peiced together the parts needed because I work for a major harley parts distributor. For an oil line, and fittings, I am paying less than $20... I love getting **** at company cost. (customchrome.com)

I drilled and atached the flange for the BOV... I need to hook it up today and also get a vaccum line for it (ran out last month and got lazy on buying more).

Also.. my comment origionally "The turbo want's a BOV", well, it felt like a base Greddy kit that did not have a BOV.

Anyways,

More TBA...

I'm sorry, usually I'm all for HMT, but this is sad, esp for $600. By today's standards, your HMT kit fails. For under $20 you likely could have bought a 1st gen DSM sidemount, and the same for some sort of DP at the local muffler shop. Add another $20, and you'd have a perfect SS oil line setup from mcmaster.com.
