Favorite blow off valve
just like the title says, what is your fave blow off valve based on sound look, and just what you think is the best. and do you run a recirculated bov or just vent to the atmosphere, can I get pros and cons of both from those of you who have ran both?

Tial /thread
Since Hondas use a MAP (manifold absolute pressure) sensor rather than a MAF (mass air flow), our cars do not require a recirculating bov. My STi is supposed to have a recirc, but it also runs a Tial....a red Tial Q to be specific

I really didnt care for my HKS bov...my STi felt like it needed a larger valve. Between shifts with the Tial, i get no hesitation whereas with the HKS, it felt a bit laggier.
BAH! You got me on that one...corrected

I have heard a lot of people saying that hks' caused a lot of lag between shifts, I just love the sound of the ssqv

GReddy Type R, TurboSmart and HKS RACE BOVs... TiAL of course is excellent, but finnicky if you decide to change camshafts in which vacuum is affected, thereby forcing you to manually change springs. The others I listed don't need that change out.

Re: Favorite blow off valve
I ran a Greddy Type S and loved it...I had to adjust the spring pressure some but the sound was awesome and once adjusted properly it never leaked. Some of the higher boost guys had problems with it ripping...mine saw 20 psi and never had a problem.
I tried a Greddy Type RS (they were literally brand new on the market at the time) and didn't like it. The setting was fairly easy but I didn't like the sound.
This time around, the kit I inherited came with Turbo XS RFL. :/
I'm sure after a week I'll be sick of it and ready to try a Greddy type s copy or a real one if I can find one.
The Tial seems to be weapon of choice for alot of the seasoned (boosted) guys in my area (Honda or not). The HKS SSQV (and copies) have a cool sound, but everyone has one. If choosing an HKS though I would only run the genuine. I don't know if they've changed since, but the newer style HKS could be modified with inserts and even replumbed to intake (if you so choose)

The NGR Type S copy was one of the best out there with its original sound. The SSQV has interchangable inserts, while the Race version did not.
TiAL is the standard choice because most other

Re: Favorite blow off valve
That Turbo XS RFL was the most ridiculous thing ever to come out back in 2003. Everyone that bought one got rid of it in 6 months because it was SOOO loud that it was just annoying for owners, not to mention the valve piston would seize all the time.

The NGR type S looks like it'll replicate the original type s quite well.
The SSQV definitely has a signature sound....(fade out)

lolz i love my turbosx rfl never got tired of it, i was an initial d fan back then and just love that loud whooooosh!! sound, then i came to to like the new tial but, then it just seem like everyone has one which made me lean toward that sychronic piston blow off, i heard it was pretty good and take away surge, then i read somewhere that it was fake and was not doing what it was made to do! since we're talking about blow off here anyone one has any info or has had this blow off? any input? pros cons?
