f22b1 turbo ring gap??????
hi there! im building up a f22b1 turbo. i bored out the stock block 85mm to 87mm. Running aftermarket h22a 87mm JE 9:0:1 pistons with pauter rods. Got my JE rings in and was wondering what size ring gap would be best, also can anyone show me the ring gap orientation? i know they need to be at a specific location on the piston to install. Trying to reach at least 300hp on maybe 10-15 psi. Anyone with suggestions would be very appreciated? Thanks.

If you don't know the order of the rings then have someone who does install them for you... And for the ring gaps, JE and Honda should both have recommendations for you...

I'll have to go back through, but I think my current Ls/Vtec turbo ring gaps were set to 0.0015-0.0019... But I could be wrong I'll look into it, but what ever they were they worked out fine!

Re: f22b1 turbo ring gap??????
I just looked in my Hanes manual and the acceptable range is 0.0008-0.0020... Now I would stick to the middle of that range if you can, but again see if your piston manufacture has any recommedations?

You can make 300whp without building the motor on the F22... I ran 335whp on a completely bone stock motor for a good while in fact. Others have also run into the 300whp range on a stock motor. Good tuning and quality managment/ parts otherwise are the key.
Also 87mm bore on a stock sleeve is going to make the sleeves quite a bit thinner. Why not consider only boring to like 86mm and running a 86mm forged piston?

but isn't that for a stock application? The same wouldn't apply to a turbo build would it?

Here is a ring installation guide I got from Endyn years ago. I have followed it for quite some time now and it has always worked:

Use whatever the Piston Mfg. ask's for, in this case it would be JE Pistons. Off the top of my head, you will be looking at .005-.0055 per inch of bore for a "Street Boosted Application".

Hey if you havent seen any of these videos check them out and a few others on youtube, they really helped me when I did my first rebuild. Also do you have a good repair manual for your car? If not I can attest it will be the best 20$ you ever spent, because it will have all the numbers you need for limits and whatnot.
