Default A/F Ratio

I got 2004 civic ex...Turbo'd with t3/t4...just installed Aem UEGO and I am wondering what is an ok range to be at once I get it fully tuned with FIC

Right now car is tuned with Apexi Neo.......

At Idle its around 10.5-11.4

and when hit the gas around 13.4-14.5

What will be a good range to make sure my car is running fine and not to rich after my tune...I have heard the person that is tuning my car sometimes runs it a little rich...Well I want to make sure this doesn't happen....

this is a fairly basic question with a pretty technical explanation.
First and foremost, you have to understand the differences between open and closed loop engine operation. Since most of the time you run in closed loop, you need to pay close attention to partial and full throttle boosting. Your stock ECU is aiming for 14.7 AFR at all times, during closed loop operation it is constantly going between +1 and -1 from 14.7. This is done so that the ECU can constantly monitor the catalytic converters operation. During WOT, however, the ECU will kick back to open loop, and this is where your tuning device can actually do its job. I personally refuse to let my AFR go above 12 AFR under ANY boost. For some people, this is actually TOO lean. Performance oriented individuals who use boost heavily (i only use it when i need it, in short bursts, i dont lay on it) usually aim between 10-11, sometimes lower. But you can say good bye to your o2 and AFR sensors in short time, along with any existing fuel economy you might have.

Your tuner should know what to do, so im not sure what youre worried about. your idle is way too rich and on throttle you're pretty lean. your numbers should be the other way around, unless youre looking at on-throttle numbers without the engine being loaded. Theres plenty of info on this available all over the net. Your setup is going to affect your numbers, as is any ignition adjustments your tuner will make.

hope this helps..

One of the reasons no one posted is because this information is easily available by searching through the Forced Induction FAQ, or even the Tuning forum FAQ.

But to answer your question here because I'm a nice guy, your idle AFR should hover around 14.7, partial throttle should be around there too, and full throttle in boost should be no higher than 12.

So basically, your tune sucks, get to someone who can tune that thing quick before you blow your **** up

anything lower than 11.0 is totally unnessesary,

from 1-5 psi i usually try to hit around 12.5 ish

then 5-10 i go 11.8 ish

then 10 and after i try to hit 11.4, 11.5 ish

lets say your going up hill, and you car is only making 1 pound of boost, seriously, if its at like 11 or 10, thats useless and wasting gas. your tuner should be able to check for ping while tuning. to see whats the best afr's to use for your car.

the leaner you can get your afr's without it pinging, the more power you will make.

This isn't always true. And besides why not be safe then sorry?!

I'd rather make 300hp at 11:1 A/F vs. 325hp at 12.3:1 A/F

I was using that only as an example but if you want to get technical its very possible to make 300hp on 5psi. Hell, we made over 1000 on 9psi and pump gas.

But thanks for cleaning that up for us.

Its all about the flow not the pressure thought we had this one put to bed on here.

I personally would rather make 312.5 @ 11.8-11.9 AFR and be about right IMO not drown it but not push it either.

11.1 we are not tuning Subaru's here

mines 10.8 full boost. Little rich but I was extremly happy with it and perfered it alittle rich over leaning out. but thats how I wanted it. I think 11.5 to 11.8 is where u wanna be boosted
