External oil pump in the way.
What kind of filter can fit over my T3 turbo with a 4" inlet, and also has part of the external oil pump chassis sitting in the middle of the inlet about 1/2 inch in? The external oil pump totally blocks every attempt I have made to put a filter on the turbo. Should I have the turbo system redesigned? Should I see if the external oil pump will be needed and try to get rid of it?
Does anybody have any ideas of a filter method I can use with some insurance I won't cause damage?

Ok, so as you can see from the photo above that the bolts to the external oil pump doesn't actually pretrude into the inlet at all it just sits there at the opening of the inlet. Any suggestions to what I can use for a filter with the pump still there in the same place? Thank you for advice.

Your better off making some sort of custom intake arm than using one of those things. Engines alone need a decent filter systerm.

Re: External oil pump in the way.
I see you point. I do have a custom oil system. It consist of a belt driven Proflo pump with external Moroso custom oil pan and an external pickup. I bought the car built and have no records of the build once so ever. Maybe if i could eleminate the external oil pump I can install the intake filter system. In most cases, is an external oil pump needed?

Re: External oil pump in the way.
Why would an external oil pump be required or suggested to have?
How long would it take to remove the external oil pump?
I really want the oil pump gone if I can do without it but I am not sure if it is required in my setup or not. As you can see the oil pump bolts sit RIGHT THERE at the inlet of my T3 turbo!! I am thinking the oil pump is going to be more trouble than it is worth. But I wanted to know what you guys have to say. I will be running low boost around 10psi or lower because this car is really my daily driver.

Re: External oil pump in the way.
I stumbled accross a great thread on honda-tech that explain you can use a part of a t-shirt or a sock and a clamp as a good filter. How hot do T3 turbo inlets get? I should be ok with the shirt idea right as far as not catching the cotton on fire?
