EXPERIENCED engine builders *evaluate* this damage!
That really doesn't look like a overbore job. My best guess would say to take it to a machine shop and see what they say. Maybe just hone all 4 and re-ring.
I've decided to hone it out, do a new piston and rings in that cylinder.
The other 3 cylinders laid down perfect compression numbers.

I feel your pain, I really do.
You see, I can't help but forget it, because every month, my Chase card reminds me.

Sorry to hear about your engine man
But if you are going to rebuild i have a set of JE 9:1 .020 bore pistons
brand new in the box never ben used for $450.00
maybe this will help you on your road to recovery

I looked at the pic...
NO WAY in heck you can hone that out...no way.
And you MIGHT not be able to use Honda oversize pistons....they are not .5 MM over...
They are way less than that.
An aftermarket piston at .5 MM over will probably work though.

yep i would bore it. MIne looked much better and i had to bore it. Also why do ya need a picker? just put the car on jack stands and drop the motor from the bottom. I have done over 10 swaps and its so much easier from the bottom
Well..you already know how to pull the head off....and all. Why not just get new rings...and see if that will somehow...break it in and maybe seal the scratches at the same time? doesnt hurt right?
I would do what you are doing and just go for it. Hone it and see how it runs if you don't want to spend the case for a bore. Theres only one way to see for sure how its going to run.
instead of renting a cherry picker, have you ever tried the up and under technic, lol.this is how i do mine everytime,i can do it completely by myself, first i take all the little things loose, then lower the car till its almost on the rotors, then i unbolt the remaining motor mounts and let it sit on a board or a jack, then i use a heavy duty jack the raise the car up almost 2 full feel, then slide out the motor from under neath(with good jack stands under it first),then to put in the new motor,i slide the new one in,slowly let out on the jack, then stop and reposition the motor a few times and let it down till i can get a few motor mount bolts started, its so easy,i can completly remove the motor in less then 3 hours from driving it in,all by myself, plus it saves from scratching stuff up and busting things.just a though,i think if you did it one time you would see how easy it was.

that is how honda inserts their engines (from underneath) why do think so many IAC and TB sensors get busted? most people and yards do it from the top.
koop, if your this far (head off, piston (s) removed, etc) may as well go all the way,at the very least get it bored .20 over and add new pistons/rods, w/ all the group buys going on it wont cost you MUCH more. hell it will prolly be cheaper overall seeing as if you have to tear it down again (and you WILL HAVE to if you dont do it correctly)
plus youll be good for some serious boost, now that you have the chance may as well do it right the 1st time, my pop always told me the cheap man always spends the most and the lazy man always works the most (stupid saying but i got what he said
)

whenever you have to change the pistons, you should bore and hone... that is the way i build motors. just play it safe...
i unbolt the remaining motor mounts and let it sit on a board or a jack

Since this thread was created, the cylinder was honed (about 9 passes) and the scuffs were totally removed and the bore was well within spec.
Cars running excellent!

im faced with the same predicimate (sp) as u man. well sorta. my rings fucked up and scratched the wall and i wanted to just hone it out and replace the ring...but since i was basically half way there, i'm gonna replace the all 4 pistons and rods for JE and Eagle
